Trip highlights

In the North West of Tasmania are two of the most stunning and diverse regions in the whole state. Cradle Mountain is well known for its iconic views and the Tarkine, a less explored region is oft dubbed "The Forgotten Wilderness"

On this unique four day trip we will see these special places from a peaceful water perspective with the aid of the "foot powered - sit on top kayaks" these hybrid Canoe / Kayaks use a pedal system to enable everyone to enjoy the water without having to worry about paddle technique or splashes from the paddles

We will explore Dove Lake with fresh view points to Cradle Mountain sure to inspire. The Tarkine comprises a variety of landscapes from button grass plains, mountain ranges and isolated rivers which wind through amazing cool temperate rainforests. The river is a perfect way to explore the area, with many smaller tributaries and waterfalls only accessible by boat

There is plenty to see by foot as well with many walking options in the area, taking us from the heart of the rainforests to the summit of button grass covered slopes that give a spectacular view of the surrounds

Today you will be picked up from your accommodation between 7.30 and 8.00am followed by a Pre Departure Briefing. Your guide will present an overview of the trip and check to ensure you have the appropriate personal equipment Departing Launceston we travel to Cradle Mountain and enjoy lunch in the Cradle Valley area then transfer to Dove Lake car park, unload the Kayaks and have a safety briefing then launch onto Dove Lake and use the magnificent back drop of Cradle Mountain to get to familiar with the pedal powered Kayaks. These easy to use sit on top kayaks are powered by a special pedal drive system so your legs are doing the work and steering is done with a hand control. After “pedalling” around Dove Lake we will pack away the kayaks and head for Corinna, an old mining and pining town at the southern gateway to the superb cool temperate rainforests of the Tarkine. 4-6 Km up to 2.5hrs Kayak

Next we will visit the Lovers Falls which is only accessible by river. Afterwards we settle into the flow and spot the abundant birdlife as we journey down the Pieman Heads to enjoy the afternoon exploring the rugged coastlines before loading the kayaks up and returning to Corinna by boat. 5-6hrs Kayak up to 2hrs walking
