The cycling is gentle and scenic, interspersed with experiencing incredible local produce such as olives, pumpkins, berries, mustards and cheese and of course sampling a variety of wines at some of the regions best wineries. Starting in Rutherglen you will cycle your way between the beautiful towns of Wangaratta, Beechworth and Myrtleford, ending in Bright where you have the option of a challenging ascent of Mount Buffalo or exploring the gorgeous rural town with views of the Victorian Alps.

Today you will make your own way to Rutherglen, checking in to your hotel this afternoon. You are then free to explore the charming town of Rutherglen, one of Victoria’s ultimate wine and food destinations. Many restaurants and cellar doors in and around Rutherglen are only open Thursday to Sunday. Please plan accordingly if there are any particular vineyards you would like to visit. Overnight in Rutherglen.

Meals:  Nil

Today's cycle is a loop around Rutherglen to experience the wines and produce the region is famous for. Departing from the centre of town you will cycle down the historic main street, and first come to Anderson Winery. This is a great first stop of the day, in particular to try their lovely sparkling shiraz. Back on the bikes and the next stop is Jones Winery, a beautiful family run winery now into its 5th generation of winemakers. A gentle, short climb will take you to the highest point of the ride, the ‘Big Wine Bottle Statue' which is a great photo opportunity with lovely views. Next you will come to the Rutherglen Gold Battery, a fascinating stop to see how gold was extracted from crushed quartz at the start of the 20th century. The Wicked Virgin and Calico Town Wines is next enroute (Thursday to Monday) and it’s a fun stop to try some extra virgin olive oil and olives. Next we cycle along the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail towards Wahgunyah, and you will get your first view of the mighty Murray River. You can stop for lunch at the Old Empire Hotel, a classic old Australian pub with great pub fare. After lunch, there is one more stop at another winery, before we had back into Rutherglen. Overnight in Rutherglen Cycling distance: 24km, ascent: 97m, descent: 94m

Meals:  Nil

This morning you will be transferred with your bikes to Wangaratta to begin the day's cycle. From Wangaratta you cycle for 8km on quiet country roads before you get to Bowser, where the rail trail starts. Once on the rail trail you will pass through farmlands and scenic views, pass Londrigan Station and Tarrawingee Station, before arriving in Everton. Here you can rest in the shade or fill up your water bottles at the station. You then continue on for a short distance before coming to Diffey Road, here you can head towards Everton Hotel for lunch. After lunch you head back onto the Beechworth-Everton Rail Trail for the uphill climb to Beechworth. While the path is relatively straight, you do need to be prepared to climb over 300m over 16km. Overnight in Beechworth. Cycling distance: 43km, ascent: 478m, descent: 83m

Meals:  Nil

Today's ride starts with a fun downhill cycle back to Everton, where you may wish to detour into the town to rest or enjoy a treat from the General Store. Rejoin the Rail Trail, and from here it’s onwards past Brookfield and Bowman Stations, a gentle climb to Taylors Gap, then a nice easy ride to Gapsted winery for a tasting and relaxing lunch. After lunch it’s a short, easy ride into picturesque Myrtleford. Overnight in Myrtleford. Cycling distance: 43km, ascent: 205m, descent: 544m

Meals:  Nil

Today is an easy ride into Bright, with many opportunities along the way to stop and sample the world class local produce. Starting this mornings cycle along the rail trail the first stop is The Pumpkin Seed and Oil Store, which do all sorts of amazing things with pumpkin seeds. Further along the track you will come to the Buffalo Berry Farm, who sell ice cream as well jam, coffee and berry pie. After a gentle cycle through bushland you can stop for lunch at Ringer Reef winery, along with a wine tasting of course. Then it’s onwards to the beautiful town of Bright, where you can explore its many great cafes and restaurants along with the nearby National Parks. Overnight in Bright. Cycling distance: 31km, ascent: 153m, descent: 48m

Meals:  Nil

You can chose to challenge yourself today with a long beautiful climb to the top of Mount Buffalo. Be prepared for 20km of continuous up hill. It’s a nice, steady gradient of about 5% and the views from the top are spectacular so it is well worth the effort. Please note, once you start climbing there are no food or drink stops, so take adequate water (at least 2 water bottles is recommended.) What goes up must come down so you will enjoy the downhill ride back into Bright. Should you prefer to explore Bright today there is a plethora of things to do and see; explore an art gallery or museum, walk one of the many beautiful walking trails, take a dip in Ovens River on a warm day or you can visit breweries, wineries, a gin distillery or a farm gate for local produce. Overnight in Bright. Your bike and gear will be picked up from your hotel this afternoon. Cycling distance: 67km, ascent: 1267m, descent: 1267m
