NEW Trip – Ladakh Mountain Biking AdventureView Trip Details

A trek in Nepal is an unforgettable travel experience. Join us to explore the many fertile valleys, peaceful villages, winding mountain trails dotted with prayer flags and wildflowers, gigantic glaciers and of course the famous snowcapped peaks of the world's highest mountains on a high quality, all inclusive trekking style that we've refined since 1975.

It's the combination of awe-inspiring wilderness, vibrant culture and gentle pace that captures the hearts of those who visit, luring people back and confirming Nepal's official tourism slogan: Once is Not Enough.

Visit the Annapurna region on our self sufficient treks through lush foothills, Hindu villages and spectacular mountain scenery; or trek through remote Sherpa villages and alongside iconic peaks as you make your way through the life-changing landscapes of the Everest Region, supported by our cheerful team of cooks and porters.

Stay at our private eco-camps when you tackle the once-in-a-lifetime trek to Everest Base Camp; add on a climb to the top of Kala Pattar or Gokyo Ri for incredible views of Everest; or join one of our challenging mountaineering expeditions to peaks such as Mera Peak, Island Peak or Lobuche with our experienced leaders.

Head east and trek to the base of Kanchenjunga; or cross high passes and remote trails as you traverse the country on the Great Himalayan Trail, arguably the world's most epic trek. Whichever trek you choose, you'll encounter breathtaking landscapes, rich local cultures and generous hospitality in the villages you pass through.

Then tour Kathmandu's religious and cultural treasures; chill out in pretty Pokhara; and head to Chitwan National Park for lush landscapes and exotic wildlife. From exciting family adventures to technical climbs on some of the world's most challenging peaks, our pioneering treks are designed to get you deep into the heart of this Himalayan gem.

Our all inclusive approach

On top of all meals while on trek, highly trained local guides and an experienced trekking and cooking crew, we also provide you with the use of a trek pack, which includes a quality sleeping bag, down or fibre fill jacket and insulated mat (valued at over US$500).

Unrivalled experience in Nepal

We've been organising treks, climbs and tours in Nepal for over four decades. Our firsthand knowledge of the region is unmatched, and we continue to push the envelope each year by innovating new programs while also finessing our classics.

Stay at our exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps

Four decades of feedback and experience has proven that camping provides the most authentic trekking experience. Across the Annapurna and Everest regions you’ll enjoy the extra comfort of our exclusive camps, which feature standing height tents, clean beds with mattresses and pillows, a heated dining room, composting sit down toilets and more. Do yourself and the environment a favour by choosing our minimal impact accommodations.

All meals on trek included

Did you know that meals on a 2 week tea-house based trek in Nepal could cost you in excess of US$800pp?! Value for money, peace of mind, looking after your health as well as the local landscapes are just some of the reasons why we believe it’s a wise decision to choose a Nepal trek with all meals included. Watch our ‘7 Reasons Why We Include Meals On Our Nepal Treks’ video on every Nepal trip page to learn even more.

Experienced guides

From Tim Macartney-Snape, who with Greg Mortimer completed the first Australian summit of Mount Everest, to Bir Singh, one of Nepal's most experienced local guides, our leaders are the key to our success as they strive to make your experience exceptional.

Widest range of adventures

From a trek around the Annapurna Circuit and crossing the high passes of the Everest region to a challenging mountaineering expedition, we offer the widest range of Nepal adventures on the market with a trip to suit every level and interest.

Pioneering the GHT and other world firsts

World Expeditions operated the first commercially guided and fully supported expedition along the entire length of the Nepal section of the Great Himalaya Trail, a representation of exploratory trekking at its finest. Our ability to pioneer this challenging trek underscores our superb logistics and crew in Nepal and embodies the essence of World Expeditions' travel philosophy.

Leaders in responsible travel

Responsible travel is at the heart of every program that we offer in Nepal. World Expeditions is a founding member of the International Porter Protection Group and has pioneered many sustainable tourism initiatives that benefit our staff, the local community and the environment such as our 10 Pieces Litter Collection initiative, our Community Project Travel program and our exclusive eco-campsites in the Everest, Gokyo and Annapurna regions.

Litter collection

The 10 Pieces litter collection initiative, where travellers collect 10 pieces of plastic or paper litter on the trail each day, is offered on all of our Nepal treks. This simple yet effective initative harnesses the collective power of tourists to keep wilderness trails clean and to educate local communities about the negative impact of litter on their environment and tourism economy.

Porter welfare policies

All porters that we employ receive a good working wage that is regulated by the Trekking Agents Association of Nepal and the Labor Union of Nepal, paying as per their guidelines, which are unionized. We are one of the only trekking companies in Nepal to provide porters with three meals a day, prepared by our cooks, as well as lodging or tents, sleeping mats and blankets. Porters receive income protection and life insurance and have access to the same first aid care that travellers receive including emergency helicopter evacuation if required. Porters are provided with a wind and waterproof jacket and over-trousers, woolen socks and gloves, leather or canvas shoes, sunglasses and a warm cap, and carry a maximum of 30kgs.

Eco-campsites

Our series of eco-campsites in the Everest and Annapurna regions contribute to the local economy by providing employment and yearly rent and by bringing trekkers into nearby villages to purchase handicrafts. The campsites minimise our environmental footprint by using yak or cow dung to fuel heaters, kerosene to cook meals and boil water, rainwater tanks, composting and septic toilets and incinerators to burn paper and non-toxic plastic waste.

Private eco-campsites

Comfort and adventure are combined in our private eco-campsites. The campsites are exclusive to World Expeditions, featuring raised beds and high ceiling tents as well as dining and toilet structures. The campsites were designed with the environment in mind, minimising the impact of our presence and providing employment opportunities to local communities.

Wilderness camping

Enjoy fully supported camping in remote locations with our outstanding crew of sherpas, porters and kitchen staff. While the campsite locations have been handpicked for their location, our commitment to responsible travel ensures our footprint is kept to a minimum.

Eco-lodges

Select locations involve lodges on a twin share basis that provide a comfortable and hygienic environment to relax at the end of the day.

Hotels

In cities and large towns you will be accommodated in good quality properties that are centrally located, atmospheric and reliable.

7 Reasons Why We Include Meals On Our Nepal Treks | World Expeditions
Currency
Nepalese Rupee fix

In Nepali the local currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). The Nepalese Rupee is different to the Indian Rupee, and the Government of Nepal has banned the import, export and use of 500 and 1000 Indian Rupees notes in Nepal.

It is difficult to convert your NPR back to foreign currency, and you will not be able to exchange NPR once back in your own country. There are many money change shops in Thamel and around Kathmandu where you will also be able to change money, however, note that many places will not allow you to change currency back.

There are also ATM’s available for use in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Nepalese traders do not like TORN notes. Most people will not accept them so ensure you check your notes when exchanging and refuse to accept any torn notes

Electricity
Nepal Electricity Plug

Electricity in Nepal is 230 Volts, at 50 hertz. The most common pin type is C (two round prong).

Electricity is becoming more widely available throughout Nepal though generally speaking the further you venture from the trailhead the less reliable it becomes. More populous areas are serviced by the grid or small scale hydro-electric projects. In more remote areas solar energy is harnessed for electricity production and as such can be unreliable and in short supply.

Many of our camps and eco-lodges provide charging facilities for small electronic devices such as phones, cameras and battery packs. In some cases this is provided free of charge however in most cases there is a fee associated with the use of such amenities. This can range from NPR100 – NPR500 (US$1 - $5) per device charged, depending on how far you are from the power grid.

We recommend you consider purchasing portable power banks or solar chargers for phone charging and at least one spare camera battery.

Visas

All nationalities require a visa for Nepal. For nationals of most countries, multiple entry Nepal tourist visas can be obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), however, to speed up arrival processes, it is easier to obtain your visa prior to departure. The details for the various options available to you are outlined below:

Visa issued by a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission prior to your departure from home -

Queues are common during peak tourist arrival times, especially at the visa application counters. In order to skip the bulk of the queues you are able in many cases to apply for your visa at your nearest Nepalese diplomatic mission. The location and contact details of your nearest mission can be found at https://nepalembassy.gov.np. Visa fees are often comparable to that paid on arrival though you will need to consider the courier costs associated in sending your passport to and from the appropriate mission. Please note that THE VISA IS ONLY VALID FOR 6 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF ISSUE, ie. you must enter and depart Nepal within six months of the date of issue of the visa. There is an online form for completion which is then printed and presented with your passport and payment to the relevant mission for visa issuance. The online form can be sourced at https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/onlinevisa-mission/application and there is a handy user manual which can be downloaded from the site to guide you through the process.

Visa Application submitted Pre-arrival, with visa issued on arrival -

There is an official online application portal (https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/) that allows you to submit and print your application prior to arrival (note this can only be completed a maximum 15 days prior) which removes the need to carry passport photographs as the electronic versions of your image are supplied as part of the process. Once you’ve applied, the form can be printed for use on arrival and payment made as outlined below.

Visa Application submitted on arrival -

If you opt to obtain your visa on arrival and have not prefilled the online form as noted above, join the queues to a row of computers and fill out the online form. Unfortunately, at time of writing, there are no printers attached to the computers so make sure to take screenshot of your final application, then join the queue to pay for your visa (officials will need to sight the screenshot of your application). You will need to pay the application fee for which cash is recommended and will be issued with a receipt. The preferred payment is USD however AUD, CAD and GBP will also be accepted at the exchange rate of the day.

Visa costs are:

US$30 – 15 days

US$50 – 30 days

US$125 – 90 days

Proceed to the immigration desk with your screenshot of the online application, receipt, two passport sized photographs if you are applying on arrival (note when using the pre-arrival service, e-versions are used however carrying a few passport photos is always advisable) and passport for processing and visa issuance.

Safety

Your safety is our number one concern. Our safety track record is exemplary thanks to careful management and thorough consultation with local partners. Our industry leading risk management procedures have become a skill that we continue to refine. Our leaders in the field are highly trained and have safety as their number one priority. Expert leaders, risk assessments, quality inclusions and your financial security all come standard when you travel with us.

Please refer to our Travel Advisory page for updates on recent events, travel warnings and advice.

We strongly recommend that all clients take out travel insurance at the time of booking to cover against sickness, accident, loss of baggage, unexpected alterations to travel arrangements and travel disruption, emergency evacuation, cancellations, etc. Insurance information is enclosed with your pre-departure information. Please contact us if you would like to obtain a quote for your trip duration.

We suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Money and valuables should always be stored safely when travelling. Keep your passport with you at all times and do not leave it in your main luggage. You will need it to change money and check into hotels. Where safety deposit boxes are available, we recommend that you use them. Keep jewellery and valuables to a minimum.
