Welcome to the "American Riviera" where the mountains and ocean meet, a setting reminiscent of the Mediterranean but distinctly American and always spectacular. Santa Barbara provides a unique experience when laid-back California lifestyle merges with the luxurious on this trip filled with sand, sun, and world class food and wine. Following seaside bike paths, the California lifestyle surrounds as you cycle from one beach to the next. Inland, you will explore Santa Barbara’s ever evolving Funk Zone, the Spanish Fortress of El Presidio and boutique shops on palm-lined State Street. This tour also showcases California’s natural beauty, taking you to nature preserves with sunbathing seals and one of the world’s most impressive collection of plants at Lotusland gardens. You will want for nothing on this tour perfect for foodies, nature lovers, beach bums and art admirers alike.

Kick off your ride cruising up State Street, making note of any restaurants that catch your eye. Then you will follow bike lanes and a well-signed bike route through quiet neighbourhoods as you make your way towards Hope Ranch. Established in 1924, Hope Ranch is a beautiful place to explore by bike and enjoy coastal views. If you're feeling adventurous, park your bike at More Mesa and explore the hiking trails that lead you to stunning views of oceanside cliffs and fields of wildflowers. Feeling peckish? Stop in at the Boathouse at Hendry's Beach (as it’s called by the locals) for one of many fresh and delicious seafood options. There's ample bike parking as it's one of Santa Barbara's most bike-friendly destinations. You’ll have a bit of a downhill cruise with beautiful coastline views as you make your way back to the hotel where you are surrounded by all the best Santa Barbara has to offer. Consider making your way to the Funk Zone for wine tasting at the Santa Barbara Winery or the Figueroa Mountain Taproom for a locally brewed beer or hard kombucha.

Montecito, named one of the "50 best places to travel in 2019" by Travel + Leisure magazine is your destination today. This tucked-away seaside haven is where luxury and laid-back California vibes effortlessly collide. Take time to enjoy lunch on a sunny patio and don't be surprised if local residents Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres or Prince Harry and Megan Markel stroll by. You may feel starstruck but the true gems are the views of the mountains above you and the ocean below with natural beauty that surrounding you. On a clear day you'll have epic views of the Channel Islands just off the coast and Santa Barbara. In Montecito, you should plan to tour the National Historic Landmark of Casa Del Herrero, “House of the Blacksmith” that is a stunning showcase of 1920s-era design and architecture. A visit to the stunning botanical gardens of Ganna Walska Lotusland is also a must! Stroll through the 37 acre estate with over 3000 plants artistically displayed in 25 unique gardens. When you descend back into downtown Santa Barbara consider heading to Stearns Wharf for a stroll down the pier as the sun sets over the harbour.

Meals:  B

Today you're headed to the beachfront city of Carpentina, a small coastal city enjoys calm beaches and a stunning nature preserve. As you make your way to this coastal town you’ll have the opportunity to stop for coffee and a final fix of Monecito’s laid back luxury as you’ll pass through this part of town one last time. Upon arriving in Carpentina take time to explore Carpentina Bluffs Nature Preserve, here you can walk along the stunning bluffs and shores blanketed in wildflowers on your way to admire harbor seals playing in the water sunbathing on the shores of the Carpinteria Seal Sanctuary. After this nature fix you yourself can hit Carpentina beach and cool off with a quick swim before your ride back or you can snag a drink at the local Island Brewing company, Rincon Brewery or Apiary Ciderworks and Meadery. If you’re not thirsty yet pedal a little further to Summeralnd where you can stop in this charming little town for a bie to eat at the Summerland Beach Café or to taste some wine at Summerland winery. Once you’ve arrived back in town and rested up climb the steps of the Santa Barbra courthouse’s watchtower, where you’ll enjoy 360-degree views of the city and the quintessential red-tile rooftops that surround it. Then you can stroll State Street in search of the perfect place for an al fresco dinner and maybe hit the Red Piano for some live music and an after-dinner cocktail.

Meals:  B

Today's short ride will leave you with plenty of time to enjoy some sand and sun on the beach or explore more of downtown Santa Barbara. Enjoy fabulous ocean views, food and drink on the Mesa Loop. You will start at the Santa Barbara Friendship Fountain at Stearns Wharf, sculpted by local resident and environmentalist James “Bud” Bottoms. His beautiful dolphin sculptures and fountains are well known worldwide. You will follow the bike path along the beach as you make your way to Arroyo Burro Beach Park for some quality beach time. Here, surfers and swimmers share the beach while paragliders float by. When you return into town, follow bike lanes and explore quaint neighbourhoods with Spanish mission style houses. If you are in the mood for a longer ride, you can continue your ride to Goleta Beach. This 45km/28mi loop takes you past Chumash villages, provides stunning views and a rewarding swim in the ocean. Either option is a great way to spend your last day cycling in Santa Barbara.
