Snowy River Trip highlights

  • 5 days guided paddling
  • Day walk to Snowy Falls
  • Abundance of wildlife - kangaroos, emus, platypus, sea eagles
  • Breathtaking wilderness
  • Aboriginal guide available for interpretation of country and indigenous perspectives
  • 100's of rapids from class 1 to 3
  • Paddle through steep rocky gorge country

The Snowy is an exceptional river. Despite being one of the most iconic rivers in Australia, many sections have rarely been seen since European occupation, which makes the area one of the few places in Australia with undisturbed Aboriginal occupation sites. The Snowy Hydro environmental restoration flows over the last few years have finally opened up one of the most breathtaking remote wilderness rivers in Australia. This five day white water rafting adventure builds your skills to paddle through towering granite gorges and over heart pumping rapids all the while surrounded by the peace and tranquility of the river and its surrounding pristine wilderness. Each afternoon you paddle up to your riverside campsite and unwind in the open air as your guides prepare your hearty evening meal. Experience a truely unique Snowy Mountains camping experience where you can chose each night to have a 'yarn' around the campfire before retiring to your tent, or stay up listening to the many sounds of the unique Snowy ecosystems. The river corridor boasts an array of wildlife. Admire the abundant platypus, spot a Snowy River brumby, and keep an eye out for the kangaroos, emus, wombats, water dragons and bird life including sea eagles that are often encountered. The broad isolated granite gorges, abundant evidence of previous Indigenous occupancy and plentiful wildlife give this place an undeniable spiritual quality. We love the Snowy River, and we know you will too!

Trip Code: SRR

We meet at 7.30am at Alpine Rivers Adventures (2531 Countegany Road, Numeralla NSW). Participants will be shuttled from Numeralla to the paddle put-in along the Snowy River behind the small town of Delegate. It is a good idea to bring spending money for the journey to and from the river for last minute items, snacks or souvenirs. Guides will inflate and pack inflatable kayaks. A comprehensive safety talk will be given and the day will be spent mastering the kayaks, refining paddling skills and enjoying fun rapids. On arrival at camp we will introduce you to wilderness camping, prepare a hearty meal and start to get to know our fellow travelling companions.

Meals:  L,D

Today we will kayak through the magnificent steep gorges and amazing granite formations of the Snowy River. The cliffs and ridges are spectacular, falling directly to the river edge, leaving a winding trail of tranquil water for all to enjoy. We will portage and view the renown but rarely seen Snowy Falls and enjoy an afternoon of quite pools mixed with rushing rapids before making camp mid afternoon.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we will paddle through the towering Cypres pine forests which have been barely viewed since European occupation. We will hike up a tributary and carefully view 'Men's Camp', an aboriginal site abundant with artefacts. This is the remotest section of the Snowy River. The afternoon is spent enjoying the abundant wildlife whilst paddling through 'Birdlife Bend', platypus pools and fun safe rapids.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we enjoy a change in scenery as the gorge begins to widen, giving way to vast stretches or rough wild bush. We paddle past sandy river banks, quiet contemplative pools and rocky rapids before arriving at yet another glorious campsite for the evening.

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we paddle some exhilarating rapids such as 'Wet Cheeks' and past the Jacobs River tributary before arriving at your pick-up location - No Name Campground, The Barry Way, Kosciusko National Park. We have a rejuvenating afternoon tea before being driven back to your transport. We aim to have you back in Numeralla by 5.00pm.
