Get your summer season off to a cracking start. Want to ride the Nelson progressive steep trails but feel you don't quite have the confidence/skillset quite yet? This camp aims to set you up to ride the progressive and steep trails at Wairoa Gorge and Nelson. Leading up to this we will be running skill sessions at Cable Bay Adventure Park and Kaiteriteri.

We are stoked to have put together this cracking group of instructors and MTB pros and selected some rad local Nelson bike parks/trails to progress your skills at your own pace. Our core instructors are Damian Stones and Rod Bardsley who bring a wealth of knowledge to this camp.

Prior riding experience:

Nelson - you've ridden Firball, Hulk n Hogan, may have progressed to Turners and Hot Box, would like to ride Te Ara Koa

Rotorua - you've ridden Corners, Eagle vs Shark and Challenge Block and keen to ride these trails or ride them better: Billy T and Hot Cross Buns

Wellington - you've ridden Makara Peak/Peak Flow and keen to ride North Face, Ridge Line, Mt Vic Super D.

Cable Bay Adventure Park with Damian Stones MTB adventurer and MTB instructor and Rod Bardsley, MTB skills instructor / Spoke Journalist. We will run a coaching session working on bike setup, core bike skills and skills for riding on steep terrain. Next, it's off to iconic Kaiteriteri to take in the beach and prep for the next day of riding in Kaiteriteri Bike Park.

Kaiteriteri Bike Park progressive grades 3+/4 trails for a coaching/ride session. Enduro MTB pro Rae Morrison is going to share some words of wisdom. Getting up to speed we'll make for Nelson and shuttle some of the great mountain bike trails high above the city before finishing at the Freehouse.

Day 3/4 The infamous Wairoa Gorge, by now you should have a bike bag full of skills to take to the Gorge trails ridden at our own pace. Here we are going to meet Jamie Nicholl who is going to take us on a tour of his favourite trails on the mountain. The day ends with pizzas and beer and accommodation on the hill ready for another Gorge day yeeow.

About Your Leader

Damian Stones

NZOIA and PMBIA Mountain bike skills instructor and adventurer, Damian has been involved in mountain biking for 20 years and is a brand ambassador for a number of different companies including Santa Cruz Bicycles, Shimano, Ground Effect clothing and CLIF Bar. Notable mission: the Waiau Toa Odyssey - best NZ made film at the NZ Mountain Film Fest 2017.

Rod Bardsley

Early DH and Enduro racer, MTB skills instructor and Spoke journalist, Rod has been biking and adventuring for more than 30 years. He has worn the fern at international races, built a bike park and continues to travel to as many riding destinations as he can.

Rae Morrison - Kaiteriteri and Nelson - professional world enduro racer, megavalanche competitor, Liv Racing sponsored rider and all-round mountain bike legend.

Jamie Nicholl - Wairoa Gorge - privateer, sponsored rider, with memorable podiums along the way - Jamie loves connecting people, bikes and the outdoors - this is his passion. He still races but with a different approach... sometimes.
