Discover the Bay of Fires from the comfort of your unique accommodations, including the award-winning Bay of Fires Lodge. This unique trip encompasses a superb series of short walks along the edge of Mt. William National Park on Tasmania's pristine East Coast. It's an awe-inspiring Tasmanian escape as you traverse this wonderfully remote and dramatic landscape. Imagine days of exploring the deserted beaches, coves and sand dunes as well as the rich diversity of the nearby woodlands. During the walks you'll be greeted by many of the native birds including the endemic black cockatoo and may even spot whales or dolphins playing in the ocean nearby. The natural highlights experienced each day in this spectacular wilderness are superbly complimented each evening when you enjoy the solitude and comfort of your exclusive accommodation in the Forester Beach permanent camp and the luxurious Bay of Fires Lodge. A further highlight is dining on scrumptious meals created from fresh Tasmanian produce.

After breakfast you will be picked up from Chalmers Church (5a Frederick Street) in Launceston at 6:30am, or from the Quamby Homestead at 6:30am where you will then be transferred to Tasmanian Walking Company’s walkers base at The Red Feather Inn for your gear check and introductions. We then journey to Mt. William via a scenic route that includes the rich pastoral landscapes of north-eastern Tasmania. t’s time to get your walking boots sandy. Our beach stroll this morning begins at Boulder Point in Mt William National Park. In clear conditions, the Bass Strait islands of Flinders and Cape Barren are visible to the north. We’ll nestle into a protected beach along the coastline for lunch, enjoying the company of native birds, rare shells and marine artefacts. From day one your guides will begin unravelling the Bay of Fires tales; its early inhabitants, visiting explorers and how it came to bear its fiery name. After about four hours walking, we’ll arrive at the Forester Beach Camp, tucked away in secluded dunes. These semi-permanent tents are our home for the night. Relax on the deck with a local wine, take a dip or explore the dune swale location while your guides prepare delicious Tasmanian fare. (walk approx 4hrs)

Meals:  L,D

Following a relaxed breakfast at the camp we walk south, absorbing the coastline’s bold colours and solitude. Along the ridgelines of sand dunes, views extend across heathlands and out to the ocean. We’ll visit marsupial lawns, often encountering quiet native animals and the tracks they leave at nightfall. We will be crossing a tidal creek this morning so be prepared! The creek can vary from very shallow to waist deep. Our guides will find the best route across and assist with carrying backpacks. Our lunch spot today is a beach sheltered behind the dunes near Eddystone Point Lighthouse. We’ll have time to explore the lighthouse and its long-standing story before we trek far-stretching beaches that lead to the celebrated Bay of Fires Lodge. Afternoon tea will be waiting, along with spa treatments for those who want to indulge. Pre-bookings are best if you’re keen to sink into the outdoor tub or settle in for a luxurious few hours at the spa. Come evening, venture into the library, cast a line off the beach or have your hosts deliver a cold drop while you dip toes into a foot spa on the back deck. Dinner is a Tasmanian long-table affair, featuring produce from the island matched with fine local beer and wine. (approx 7hrs)

Meals:  B,L,D

Rise early and experience the many native birds accompanying the dawn, or, if you’re lucky, watch whales glide down the coast or dolphins surfing waves. You can sleep late and be woken by the aromas of a hot-cooked breakfast and freshly brewed coffee. Later in the morning, the group will kayak down the Anson’s River and experience the riparian ecology of this winding river. Cross the bird rich waters of Anson’s Bay and conclude with a stroll over the dunes of Abbotsbury Peninsula back to the lodge. This is a group activity that you will all undertake together. In the evening you can go for a walk, and depending on the weather, you may encounter wombats, wallabies, forester kangaroos, possums or even a Tasmanian devil. The night sky is an awesome spectacle from the pristine vantage point of the lodge and its surrounds. Your accommodation is again at the lodge. (approx 6 hours of kayaking)

Meals:  B,L,D

Following a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, there’s plenty of time for a morning swim or final spa treatment before we depart the lodge. Unlike our other walking, today we venture through eucalypt forests and coastal heathland. We’ll enjoy a forest lunch to the sound of native birds, including the endemic green rosella. At the conclusion of your walk at Red Feather Inn, we will run a shuttle service into Launceston CBD via the airport. We will drop off at the Launceston Airport at 6:15pm followed by Launceston CBD (Chalmers Church) at 6:30pm. If you are staying at the Quamby Homestead a return shuttle will be arranged. (walking approx 1hr)

We will meet together this morning and get ready for our first walking day. We then journey to Mt. William via a scenic route that includes the rich pastoral landscapes of Scottsdale and the tin-mining town of Derby. We reach the Northern part of the Mt. William National Park and begin walking at Boulder Point. Views to the North include the Bass Strait Islands (Flinders, Cape Barren, etc). Lunch is enjoyed on one of the many pristine beaches accompanied by native birds, interesting shells and marine artefacts. Many secluded beaches are tucked between sand-dunes and off-shore rocks and are separated by rocky headlands. The evening is spent at Forester Beach camp in twin-share, semi-permanent tents. Meals are usually spent relaxing on the deck and enjoying the surrounds of the dune swale location. (walk approx 9km; 4hrs)

Meals:  L,D

Following a relaxed breakfast at the camp we walk South, absorbing the magnificent coastline colours and the solitude. Walking along ridgelines of sand-dunes, one can enjoy views across heath lands and across the ocean to the East. Exploration of the marsupial lawns often reveals quiet native animals and the many tracks they leave behind. Lunch is at one of the sheltered coves along the way to Eddystone Point Lighthouse. The afternoon is spent in the seclusion of beaches and coves that lead gradually to afternoon tea at the Bay of Fires Lodge. The evening is spent relaxing at the majestic Bay of Fires Lodge, in twin share or double rooms. Meals are prepared by your lodge hosts and guides and accompanied by fine Tasmanian wine and beer. The library can be a source of reference material or just light reading as well as games for the evening. (approx 14km; 7hrs)
