A Lake District Charity Challenge

Centre Based Hiking Challenge from Keswick

From the heart of Cumbria a group of hikers set off on an English Lake District challenge to fundraise for the Children Today charity. A series of day walks led to the main challenge, tackling the peak of Scafell at 978m under guidance of mountaineer Simon Yates. Here's what they had to say.

It was a great trip with amazing people and resulted in Children Today being able to help several families living with disability.

I really enjoyed the trip and have been busy since returning.
The whole experience was excellent. The group, which I know all of them personally, […]  are a very positive set of people and when anyone is struggling will always help pull that person through, so that all achieved.

[...]Please pass along my thanks again to:
-    The hotel and the staff who made our stay excellent. I certainly will be returning.
-    The food both there and at the other venues was all good and without any problems at all.
-    Simon Yates too fitted in with the group taking on Scafell and his talk in the evening was a nice touch. Whilst he had had an extremely long day he certainly didn’t rush off.
-    By no means last, guide John who organised and led the group joined in with the social side as well as being professional.

Guide

Our guide’s calm influence and timing was a great asset from arriving with the packed lunches early morning to making sure we all got to the venues in time in the evening. John soon blended in to the group and day by day his sense of humour expanded. We are all really looking forward to seeing the many photographs he took.
On behalf of all the group, huge thanks to him.

COVID-19

I and John took several boxes of Covid Tests and issued each person with them to take if they wanted.
There was not a problem at all and all were relaxed on arrival and joined in with everything.

All in all this was an excellent trip, well organised and very much enjoyed by all. The weather of course helped with the walks and we only had a very brief amount of rain on Day 2 going up Cat Bells.

Thanks again.

This review was provided by Elizabeth O., Regional Fundraising Manager at Children Today Charitable Trust. The English Lake District challenge (based on our Keswick trip) took place in September 2021 and was all about raising funds for this charity. The participants have raised in the region of £30k, which will change the lives of many families living with disability.
