This rewarding short trek offers a scenic approach to Khunde, combining gentle days on the Everest trail with a meaningful visit to the Sir Edmund Hillary Hospital and participation in the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation’s special anniversary celebrations in the Khumbu. Travelling through Sherpa villages and rhododendron forests, trekkers experience the warmth of the local community, breathtaking mountain views, and the legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary’s lifelong commitment to improving lives in this remote Himalayan region. As part of this special departure, each trekker is asked to contribute a minimum donation of $1,000 CAD to the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation Canada, helping support ongoing education, healthcare, and community projects in the region.

If the donation is made directly by the traveller, SEHF will issue a charitable tax receipt. Travellers who wish to fundraise their contribution may do so through a fundraising page arranged by World Expeditions, with tax receipts issued to donors by the fundraising platform.

You will be met by a representative of World Expeditions and transferred to the Yak and Yeti Hotel. Remainder of the afternoon at leisure. A pre-trek briefing will be given around 4.30-5pm where arrangements will be made for the distribution of your kit bag, sleeping bag and down/fibrefill jacket. This evening we will head out for dinner (Not included) , this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with your fellow group members. Overnight: Yak & Yeti hotel or similar

Meals: Nil

This morning we have an early start with a spectacular mountain flight to the famous STOL airstrip at Lukla, built with the support of Sir Edmund Hillary to provide access to the remote Everest region. Weather permitting, the flight offers superb views of the eastern Himalaya. On arrival in Lukla, our trekking crew assembles and we begin our journey on the classic Everest trail. The broad path descends gently through pine forest and small Sherpa settlements, crossing suspension bridges over the rushing Dudh Koshi River. We pass mani stones, prayer wheels, and cultivated fields before reaching our first lodge. Overnight: exclusive eco-comfort camp Monjo

Meals: B,L,D

This morning we cross the green/aqua waters of the Dudh Kosi and pass through the gates of the Sagamartha National Park. The establishment of this national park is a significant attempt to stem the use of fire-wood in the area. Self-contained trek groups must use only kerosene fuels for cooking, a philosophy we follow everywhere in Nepal, whether we are in a national park or not. Tea-houses and lodges are encouraged to use kerosene, yak dung or electricity but unfortunately continue to use mostly fire-wood for cooking, heating and for hot water for trekker's showers. This practice continues to deplete the forests. We follow the river course to the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and the Bhote Kosi and cross a spectacular high bridge before commencing our ascent to the village of Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa "capital" of Nepal. It is a tough climb as the trail passes through forest of pine to a vantage point that provides our first view of Mt Everest. The trail continues to climb and meander to Namche and the sight of this prosperous village spread within a horse-shoe shaped valley opposite the beautiful peak of Kongde Ri is worth every step. After lunch you may wish to peruse the Tibetan trader's stalls or the Sherpa shops in search of a bargain. Overnight: eco-lodge

Meals: B,L,D

Leaving the main Everest Base Camp trail, we head west along a quieter route into the peaceful Bhote Koshi valley. The trail climbs gradually through traditional Sherpa villages and open alpine landscapes, offering beautiful views of snow-capped peaks. Thame is a historic village known for its ancient monastery and strong mountaineering heritage, home to many famous Sherpa climbers. The afternoon is free to explore the village and visit Thame Monastery. Overnight: Lodge in Thame Overnight: Lodge in Thame

Opportunity to further experience local culture and hospitality before continuing the journey. Overnight: Lodge in Khunde.

Meals: B

Leaving Khunde, the trail descends steadily through pine forest toward the Dudh Kosi River, crossing several suspension bridges along the way. The landscape feels familiar yet transformed, carrying the weight of everything we have experienced during our trek. Continuing down the valley, we exit Sagarmatha National Park and arrive at Monjo, marking the final stages of our journey through the Everest region. Overnight: exclusive eco-comfort camp Monjo

Meals: B,L,D

We retrace our steps along the Dudh Kosi Valley, passing familiar villages, mani walls, and forested sections that now feel like old friends after our time in the high Khumbu. The trail undulates gently through the valley, with a final steady climb bringing us back to Lukla, where our trek first began. As we arrive, there is a strong sense of achievement after completing one of the world’s great mountain journeys. This evening provides an opportunity to celebrate together and thank our trekking crew and porters, many of whom will return to their home villages from here. Accommodation: Lodge Lukla For those wishing to shorten the trip by one day, there is the option to take a helicopter from Khunde to Kathmandu. You would spend the night at the Yak & Yeti Hotel and depart the following day. (Please refer to the helicopter surcharge for pricing information. If travelling in a group of five, the per-person cost is significantly lower compared to booking the helicopter individually.)

Meals: B,L,D

In the morning, you will take an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, an iconic short takeoff and landing (STOL) flight lasting approximately 30–40 minutes, offering spectacular mountain views along the way. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, giving you time to rest, shop for souvenirs, or explore Kathmandu’s many cultural and historical sites. Overnight: Yak & Yeti hotel or similar

Breathtaking views as we trek down towards Thame | Monika Molenda
Restoring Learning in Thame Project

Restoring access to digital education through the installation of a computer lab and smart classroom technology, helping rebuild learning opportunities for students affected by climate-related disasters.

In Nepal's Solukhumbu region, the remote mountain village of Thame is recovering from a devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) that destroyed homes, infrastructure, and critical community services — including the local school and its computer lab. With students displaced and relocated to temporary learning facilities, access to quality education has been severely disrupted, particularly in digital learning.

The Rebuilding Digital Education in Thame project aims to address this gap by equipping the newly relocated Thame Basic School with a computer lab, smart boards, and essential digital infrastructure. This will enable students and teachers to access modern, technology-enabled education in one of the most remote regions in the world.

With support from the World Expeditions Foundation, this project will fund the installation of computers, smart boards, printers, and classroom infrastructure to support both students and teachers. The outcome? Improved digital literacy, more engaging and interactive teaching, and equitable access to education for a community rebuilding after disaster.

The project is led by Himalayan Trust Nepal, a long-standing organisation working closely with local communities, schools, and government partners to deliver sustainable education and development outcomes across the Khumbu region.

Every departure date advises whether the date is confirmed, and roughly how full it is. Here is what each one means.

Is the departure confirmed?

Guaranteed to go This departure has reached its minimum number and will run.
It is the point travellers should wait for before booking any non-refundable flights.
Close to guaranteed This appears only when a date is close to reaching minimum numbers. If it shows 1 or 2 to guaranteed, book as a pair on a date needing two and it reaches its minimum. Your booking confirms the date for everybody already booked.

How full is the date I am looking at?

Space is filling or Space is filling fast This date has bookings and places are still open. Filling fast means limited spots available, so don't leave your decision too late.
Closing soon Down to its last few places, or close enough to departure that we are finalising numbers. Still bookable online.
Closed Not bookable online - either full, or inside the notice we need to arrange permits, flights and logistics. Ask us anyway, you never know!

Availability questions answered

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

The season typically runs from late September (Autumn) to early May (Spring). This is when there is no monsoon and the weather is stable and clear enough for views of 8000m giants! In some parts of the Himalaya, Spring brings with it a riot of colour thanks to the famous rhododendrons.

No technical experience is needed. This trek is suitable for fit, healthy and adventurous travellers who can walk 5-8 hours a day without worry. You’ll have full support from experienced guides, porters, and our friendly Nepalese team.

You’ll only carry your daypack (approx. 6-8kg / 13-18lb) with daily items like water, camera, rain jacket, and snacks. Your main gear is carried by porters.

Your trek duffel (provided) should not exceed 15kg (33lb). On Lukla flights, we include an extra 5kg (11lb) allowance in addition to the usual 15kg (33lb) limit (10kg checked + 5kg carry-on).

Yes - any extra items not needed on the trek can be safely stored at the group hotel in Kathmandu.

Yes - all accommodation is twin-share in both lodges and Eco-Comfort Camps. If you'd prefer your own space, a single supplement can be arranged for an additional cost (subject to availability).

At higher altitudes, especially at night and above 4,000m (13,100ft), temperatures can drop significantly at night. Expect anything from mild to below freezing (Celsius). We help keep you warm with high-quality gear and Eco-Comfort Camps that include a heated dining area.

At our Eco-Comfort Camps, you’ll find Western-style sit-down toilets. Lodge toilet styles can vary, but many now also include Western-style options.

You will see the top of the world's highest peak, however there are many other treks (like our Everest Circuit or Everest High Passes treks) in the Everest region that will provide vantage points showcasing more of the mountain. If seeing Mt Everest if your goal, also consider seeing it from the Tibetan side where the view is uninterrupted.

You'll stay at the Radisson, a 4-star hotel, in Kathmandu. On trek, enjoy our exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps with heated dining rooms, sit-down toilets, as well as selected eco-lodges in villages. Hot showers are sometimes available but not guaranteed. We provide warm washing water every morning on trek.

There will be opportunities to charge your camera/phone at Namche, Deboche and Lukla. There are also solar charging facilities in Dingboche, Lobuche & Gorak Shep. You should carry fully charged spare batteries as well and a solar charging pack is also handy.

Yes - with World Expeditions, all meals are included while on trek. Our cooks prepare fresh, hearty meals each day, using safe food-handling practices, to keep you well-fuelled and healthy. You won’t need to budget extra for food on the trail, which can be USD20 a meal. In Kathmandu, breakfast is included, but other meals are at your own expense so you can explore local dining options.

Our trek is graded Moderate (5). Days can involve up to 8 hours of trekking, with steep ascents/descents and altitudes up to 5,545m (19,192ft), so a resonable level of fitness is required. You should already lead an active lifestyle. Training 4-5 months beforehand with regular aerobic and hill walking exercise is recommended

The trek reaches Kala Pattar at 5,545m (18,192ft), offering panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Not all companies offer this added hike from EBC.

Yes - return flights to and from Lukla are included. Each trekker is allowed a total checked luggage weight of 20 kg (about 44 lbs), however our trekkers also receive 5 kg (about 11 lbs) extra allowance on the trek flights.

No - we provide one. Some operators require you to hire or buy gear at extra cost, we include a warm sleeping bag, liner and mat as part of your trek. In our Eco-Comfort Camps, you’ll sleep on raised beds with mattresses and pillows.

You won’t need to invest in expensive gear you might only use once - we include essentials on our Nepal treks like a quality sleeping bag, down or fibre fill jacket and sleeping bag liner. This not only saves you money, but lightens your load when you travel to/from Kathmandu! Once you’ve booked, we’ll provide a detailed gear list outlining exactly what you need to bring. If you don't have a sturdy pair of boots yet, start looking into those now.

Based on our years of experience in the Himalaya, the safest itineraries include acclimatisation days, like ours, so they are paced for safe ascent. Guides are trained in first aid, carry a medical kit, and we take a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC) on all treks above 4,000m (13,100ft). We do not carry oxygen on standard trekking tours. If symptoms persist, descent is required.

  • Sleep greener at our sustainable Eco-Comfort Camps, which feature added homey comforts like raised beds, clean linen, mattress and pillow
  • Enjoy a more cultural experience by interacting with your support team in our Eco-Comfort Camp environment
  • Save money and hassle with our inclusions: all meals on trek prepared by our dedicated cooks plus hot drinks and unlimited water, 5kg extra baggage allowance to/from Lukla and use of a Trek Pack (quality down jacket, sleeping bag and more)
  • Safety measures include a well-paced itinerary with extra days for better acclimatisation, expert wilderness first aid trained guides equipped with medical kit and a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC)
  • Pioneering Porter Policy: we supply our porters with food, accommodation and clothing on trek (including wind/waterproof jackets, boots and more) and the same medical care as our trekkers, plus other benefits including insurance and a good working wage.
  • Camping based treks employ more local people, which spreads the financial benefits of tourism further into the community
  • Receive a souvenir World Expeditions kit bag
