Indulge in a hearty breakfast at the hotel before we transfer back to Lima Airport for your early flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, your guide will be eagerly awaiting you to commence our journey to the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is Awanacancha, a captivating "Living Museum" and collaborative weaving project. Here, we'll meet skilled weavers from various communities around the Sacred Valley, immersing ourselves in their art and gaining insights into their craft. You'll have the opportunity to interact with both the weavers and the animals that contribute their fibers to this cherished tradition, including the Huacaya and Suri alpacas, each offering distinct types of wool. Continuing our adventure, we'll head to the rural village of Pisac, where we'll explore the remarkable Pisac Ruins and immerse ourselves in the lively atmosphere of the bustling open-air market. As we ascend through the tranquil Andean mountain countryside on a winding 45-minute drive, the panoramic vistas gradually unfold, revealing the historical village and the surrounding farmlands of Pisac sprawling below us. Our first glimpse of Pisac's majestic ruins atop the mountain across from us is awe-inspiring (2871M). Venturing through the village, we'll ascend to the Inca citadel, where we'll marvel at the remarkably preserved ruins, although their original purpose remains shrouded in mystery. Following our exploration of the ruins, we'll have the opportunity to wander through the picturesque Andean village of Pisac. Renowned for its vibrant open-air market, you'll have the chance to peruse a variety of local products and indulge in traditional Andean cuisine, such as Choclo con Queso (corn with cheese), at the food booths. Tonight, we'll rest at Hotel Amaru Valle (or a similar accommodation), ready for more adventures in the days ahead.

Meals:  B,L

Embark on a journey with us to the mountain community of Huama and engage in the enriching experience of the “La Base Lamay” Project. We'll gather at La Base, where the warm embrace of the community awaits us, inviting us to partake in their daily routines, agricultural endeavors, and vibrant customs for the day. Immerse yourself in the essence of community spirit as we join in a "Faena Agrícola" (Community Labor Day), bonding with the villagers as they collaborate on various tasks. Witness firsthand the ingenuity and dedication of these villagers as they employ traditional farming methods to cultivate an array of local crops, including corn, potatoes, quinoa, tarwi, beans, legumes, and more. Following the agricultural activities, we'll savor a traditional lunch crafted from the bountiful harvests nurtured by the community. In the afternoon, the skilled women of the village will showcase the ancient art of weaving, using natural, plant-dyed yarn sourced from alpacas and sheep. Engage in conversations about the significance of weaving in village life and gain insights into this cherished tradition. Our visit not only offers us a glimpse into the sustainable, nature-based lifestyle of this community but also contributes to its ongoing vitality and resilience. After an enriching day, we'll retire for the night at Hotel Amaru Valle (or a similar accommodation), ready to continue our exploration of the Sacred Valley in the days ahead.

Meals:  B,L

In the early hours of the morning, we'll set out for the Ensifera Sanctuary, an inspiring conservation initiative dedicated to providing refuge and sustenance for a diverse array of bird species, including the captivating hummingbirds. As the day unfolds, we'll immerse ourselves in the beauty of these winged creatures and the sanctuary's noble mission. Later in the afternoon, we'll embark on a memorable hike from Pumamarca to Ollantaytambo. Our journey commences as we depart from the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo, venturing towards Pallata to commence our trek. Ascending along the trail, we'll pass by local community members, catching glimpses of their daily routines amidst the breathtaking Andean landscape. Arriving at Pumamarca, perched atop the lush Patacancha Valley, we'll marvel at the strategic vantage point chosen by the Inca, offering commanding views of the surrounding valleys and the convergence of distant rivers. Explore the archaeological complex of Pumamarca, adorned with ancient stairways, ceremonial structures, and storage facilities, all showcasing impeccable Inca craftsmanship. Continuing our hike, we'll traverse the terraced landscape of Musqa Pukyo, treated to sweeping panoramas of the Andean terrain throughout our descent. The journey through these meticulously farmed terraces will lead us to the charming village of Ollantaytambo, where our private vehicle awaits. Tonight, we'll unwind, store any excess luggage to collect on day 9, and recharge at Sol Ollantay (or a similar accommodation), reflecting on the day's adventures and anticipating the wonders yet to be discovered in the Sacred Valley.

Today, we embark on a scenic drive toward Limatambo, passing through the Tika Tika Pass, where we'll be greeted by our first glimpse of the majestic Mount Salkantay and Humantay silhouetted against the horizon. Crossing the Anta plateau, we'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the vibrant agricultural landscape, with rugged snow-capped peaks providing a dramatic backdrop. Arriving at the trailhead just beyond the village of Misquiyaco, we commence our trek through one of Peru's newest private conservation areas, established by law in 2021. Our journey begins with a profound experience of Pachamama, the Earth Mother, as we offer our respects through the traditional ritual of "Pago a la tierra," invoking blessings for our mountainous adventure. Ascending through an ancient Meso-Andean Relict Forest, a rare and precious ecosystem found in less than 0.02% of Peru's vast territory, we'll encounter flora such as the Tasta (Escallonia myrtilloides) and Chachacomo (Escallonia resinosa), protected by Peruvian law. As we ascend, the landscape evolves, transitioning from dense forest to high grasslands, marking our arrival at the campsite in Acopía after approximately 10 kilometers of trekking over 6-7 hours. Nestled at an elevation of 4154 meters above sea level (13,628 feet), Acopía provides a tranquil refuge for the night. Rest and rejuvenate at Acopia Camp, ready to continue our adventure amid the natural wonders of the Andean highlands.

Meals:  B,L,D

Leaving behind the tranquil setting of Acopía, we press onward, ascending towards our first pass at Tambomachay, standing proudly at 4367 meters above sea level (14,323 feet). As the day unfolds and the sun casts its warming rays, we may be fortunate enough to spot Andean bird species, including the majestic Condors, gracefully gliding across the mountainous landscape. After a gentle ascent lasting 4-5 hours, we'll reach our lunch spot at Uspaccasa, situated at 4,559 meters above sea level (14,953 feet), offering a sheltered haven beyond the pass with awe-inspiring vistas of Mt. Salkantay and Mt. Humantay. Following our nourishing lunch, we'll continue along the lofty ridge, veering right towards Cruzjasa Pass, towering at 4,683 meters above sea level (15,360 feet). Here, we'll be treated to breathtaking views of the South face of Mt. Palcay, the majestic south face of Mt. Salkantay, and the expansive Pampacahuana Valley. Embracing the serene solitude of the rugged terrain, we'll revel in the knowledge that few others traverse these remote landscapes. Descending along a steep trail, we'll arrive at our campsite nestled amidst the mountains and under the vast expanse of stars at Mirador de Pampacahuana, covering a distance of 15 kilometers over 6-7 hours. The campsite, situated at 3902 meters above sea level (12,801 feet), provides a tranquil haven for a restful night's sleep amidst nature's grandeur. Settle in for the night at Pampacahuana Camp, surrounded by the majestic peaks and the serene beauty of the Andean landscape, ready to embrace the adventures that await in the days ahead.

Meals:  B,L,D

We bid farewell to the majestic presence of Mt. Salkantay and embark on a downhill hike, tracing the path alongside an ancient Inca canal that meanders through the heart of the Pampacahuana Valley. As we descend, the landscape gradually transitions, dotted with quaint farm settlements that add charm to the surroundings. Upon reaching the valley's end, we'll notice a diverse array of vegetation emerging as we descend below the tree line. Our journey leads us to Paucarcancha, a secluded Inca site nestled at the junction of the Pampacahuana and Q´esca valleys. Here, we'll explore the remnants of Inca stone walls and ancient dwellings, gaining insights into the rich history of the region. Following a brief visit and a well-deserved lunch, we resume our descent, joining the initial segment of the renowned Inca Trail as we make our way towards the Patallacta ruins. This archaeological site once served as a vital rest stop for the Inca en route to Machu Picchu. Continuing onward, we arrive at our campsite at Chamana, a private haven equipped with hot showers, providing a welcome opportunity to cleanse and rejuvenate after the exhilarating adventures of the preceding days. Covering a distance of 17 kilometers over 6 hours, we settle in for the night at Chamana Camp, nestled amidst the serene beauty of the Andean landscape. Rest well at Chamana Camp, replenishing your energy for the adventures that lie ahead as we continue our journey towards Machu Picchu

Meals:  B,L,D

As we reach this juncture, we find ourselves at the threshold of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. Our exploration continues with a visit to the awe-inspiring ruins of Huayna Q’ente, adorned with remarkable Inca terraces and masterful landscaping. Departing from the Sanctuary, we'll pass through the charming town of Q’oriwairachina en route to Piscacucho, home to the main entrance of the Inca Trail. The trail leads us alongside the Vilcanota River, guiding us through a series of ancient archaeological sites. Remarkably, this path mirrors the footsteps of Hiram Bingham, who was guided to Machu Picchu by local inhabitants in 1911. Covering a distance of just over 15 kilometers over 7 hours of trekking, our journey through history continues. From Piscacucho, we'll embark on a car journey to Ollantaytambo, arriving in time to catch the afternoon train to Machu Picchu Village, where we'll spend the night. Nestled amidst the verdant beauty of the surrounding landscape, we'll find respite at El Mapi Hotel by Inkaterra (or a similar accommodation), preparing for the enchanting exploration of Machu Picchu awaiting us in the days ahead.

Meals:  B,L,D

Following an early breakfast, we embark on a brief, half-hour bus journey winding up the road to the entrance gates of Machu Picchu. Here, we'll partake in a captivating three-hour guided tour of this ancient hilltop citadel, delving into its various sectors and even stepping into some of the well-preserved houses and temples. As we wander amidst these iconic ruins, it's as if we've stepped into a dream of ancient times. The seamless blend of manmade structures with the natural surroundings evokes a profound sense of wonder and reverence, leaving us with cherished memories to treasure for a lifetime. In the afternoon, we return to the village, where we collect our stored luggage and a train awaits to transport us back to Ollantaytambo. On board, we're treated to entertainment, snacks, and a selection of hot and cold refreshments. Upon arriving at the Ollantaytambo train station, we'll be greeted and driven back to the city of Cusco. Tonight, we rest at Abittare Hotels (or a similar accommodation), reflecting on the mesmerizing experiences of our journey through the ancient wonders of Machu Picchu, with the promise of more adventures awaiting us in the days ahead.

Meals:  B,L

Join us for a guided tour that begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel, whisking you away to the revered temple of Qoricancha, meaning "Golden Courtyard" in Quechua. This sacred site was once adorned with gold during the Inca era, and today, the Convent of Santo Domingo and the Colonial Church stand atop its original Inca foundation, courtesy of the Spanish conquistadors. Our journey continues to Cusco's vibrant Plaza de Armas, where the impressive Cusco Cathedral and the Iglesia de la Compañia de Jesus (Church of the Company of Jesus) stand tall. The plaza bustles with activity, featuring a central statue, flourishing flower gardens, and ample pathways for leisurely strolls. Next on our itinerary is Sacsayhuaman, an expansive fortress perched high above the city of Cusco. Initially constructed by the pre-Inca Killke culture around 1100 A.D., the site boasts walls meticulously crafted from custom-shaped stones, some so precisely fitted that not even a thin sheet of paper can be inserted between them. Our journey continues to Q’enqo, an ancient ceremonial site adorned with a rock sculpted into the shape of a puma, a sacred creature in Inca culture. Here, intricate passageways and canals adorned with animal pictographs offer glimpses into the region's rich history. Venturing forth, we arrive at Puka-Pukara, or the "red fortress" in Quechua, aptly named for the crimson hue of its rocks at sunset. Our final stop is Tambomachay, known as the "Inca Baths," featuring a series of canals, flowing aqueducts, and cascading waterfalls. After a day filled with exploration and discovery, we return you to your lodging, where you can unwind and reflect on the captivating experiences of the day. Tonight, rest comfortably at Abittare Hotels (or a similar accommodation), preparing for more adventures that await in the enchanting city of Cusco.
