From the vast dunes of the Namibian desert to the teeming animal life of Etosha, this itinerary crosses the parks, rivers and landscapes of southern Africa. Beginning in Cape Town we head north, passing through the Namaqualand region, and see the Orange River drop 56m / 184ft over Augrabies Falls. We travel into the Kalahari and spend two nights in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. At the edge of the Namib Desert we visit Fish River Canyon, the second largest in the world, and view wildlife in Etosha National Park. Continuing through the Caprivi Strip and via the Kavango River into Botswana, we visit two of Africa's great wildlife areas, the Okavango Delta and the Chobe River. Victoria Falls provides the backdrop to a range of activity options and the close of this journey through southern Africa. You stay in a combination of small hotels, safari lodges and guesthouses with character, each with ensuite facilities.

The African Wildlife Explorer Cape Town to Victoria Falls trip is an exciting adventure and excellent value! While there are some long driving days, this is what allows for the ability to see so much beautiful scenery and wonderful wildlife. Our guide, Misheck, was very knowledgeable and an excellent driver, and did a good job of keeping the group together and on time during the many activity-filled days. All of the resorts were very nice, and some absolutely wonderful, as was the food. We saw loads of wildlife, beautiful scenery and fascinating scenes of daily life of the local people. Highly recommended!
The quality of the trip was great. Our local guide was terrific, and everything went smoothly. The itinerary was perfect for what we were looking for.

This trip was a good mix of wildlife and landscape, with good accommodation on the way. It was different to other trips, heading up through the Kalahari desert, where most other trips don’t go.
World Expeditions local South African operator was excellent- especially the driver/guide! Everything went smoothly and his knowledge and communication skills were exceptional.
Our African trip was excellent, saw a lot in the 3 week period. Some of the days were quite long with big distances to travel between locations, but our guide kept us well entertained and accommodated everyone’s needs for toilet breaks and food stops. The game drives were a highlight and we were glad we did the route in a clockwise direction, as it got more exciting the further into the trip we went. Was amazing to see wild animals up close.
great trip guide was fantastic lot of travelling but worth it
Very good trip with long days of driving between highlights. I would recommend that the trip should spend more time of if possible spend more time interacting with the Himba people . A flight between Cape Town and Windhoek would allow this.
Mischek is a great guide and driver. I expected long travel days and early starts for the safari days, but the drives were even longer and rougher than expected. The truck was not air conditioned so I would not have wanted to travel any later in the year as it would have been far too hot. There needed to be a few extra days added to the tour to make it less tiring (from sitting in the truck) and some more active activities, even just walking, and for rest days/half days. The landscapes were fantastic especially Sossuvlei and the Namibian sand dunes, and the game drives also good with the waterholes at Etosha and Chobe being the highlights. Accommodation on the whole was excellent except for Swampstop in the Okavango Delta which was fairly basic. It was a good trip but could have been made much better by less lengthy and rough drive times and a bit more down time. It was less active than I would have expected of a WE trip.

Based on twin share rooms with private ensuite facilities, these extraordinary accommodations will provide an extra element to your holiday memories. They are generally one storey high (maximum two storeys) and will be a collection of individual bungalows or a series of adjoining rooms, based around a central main dining and lounge area.

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.
You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.
If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.
Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.
Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.
Africa's wildlife is wild and unfenced. On many wildlife safaris you may meet them on foot, or from a vehicle. Walking in big-game country carries some risk, and the safeguards are not the same in every country.
Rules on firearms, guide qualifications, group size and how close you may approach an animal are set country by country, park by park. Many incorrectly assume that every wildlife safari in Africa travels with an armed ranger. Several countries prohibit firearms outright. Where an armed escort is required, it is supplied by the park authority.
What is consistent is how these trips operate. You walk in a small group with a professional local guide who knows the country and the animals in it. We do not include captive or hands-on wildlife encounters in any itinerary.
