Your vessel will become your floating basecamp allowing you to explore a pocket of the Antarctic peninsula on numerous shore excursions.

Exploratory voyages, not cruises

We use vessels that carry no more than 198 passengers, giving us access to areas that are unavailable to the larger cruise ships. We focus on spending time ashore to enjoy the spontaneity of wildlife encounters, hearing from experts in research stations and observing sculptured ice formations from our zodiacs. No two trips are the same.

Accommodation

Our vessels are specifically designed with expedition cruising in mind. Cabins range from quadruple berths right through to spacious suites, accommodating all budgets and tastes. Most cabins have private bathrooms, however some share a bathroom between a small number of other cabins. Public areas include dining quarters, lecture theatres, a bar and a library and some of our ships also have spas and gymnasiums aboard.

Cabins

Ortelius | Superior

This cabin has 2 windows, 1 double bed and a sofa bed. A private shower & toilet, a desk & chair, Flatscreen TV plus a telephone and internet connection point. Refrigerator and coffee/tea making facilities. A hair dryer and ample storage space. Capacity 2 people.

Orteluis | Twin Window, Deluxe or Porthole

These cabin types have either 1 window, 2 windows, or 1 porthole. There are 2 lower berths. A private shower & toilet, a desk & chair, Flatscreen TV plus a telephone and internet connection point. A hair dryer and ample storage space. Capacity 2 people.

Deluxe cabins are corner cabins and slightly more spacious than the normal twin porthole/window cabins.

Ortelius | Triple or Quadruple Porthole

These cabins have 1 porthole and either 2 lower & 1 upper berths (1 bunk) or 2 upper & 2 lower berths (bunks). A private shower & toilet, a desk & chair, Flatscreen TV plus a telephone and internet connection point. A hair dryer and ample storage space. Capacity 3 or 4 people.

These cabin types are suitable for families traveling with children, or passengers who do not require a twin or more luxurious cabin.

Plancius | Superior

Plancius | Twin Deluxe, Window or Porthole

These cabins have either 2 windows, 1 window or 1 porthole. They have 2 lower berths, a private shower & toilet, a desk & chair, Flatscreen TV plus a telephone and internet connection point. A hair dryer and ample storage space. Capacity 2 people.

Twin Deluxe cabins are corner cabins and are slightly more spacious than the normal twin porthole/window cabins.

Plancius | Quadruple Porthole

This cabin has 1 porthole, 2 upper & 2 lower berths (bunks). A private shower & toilet, a desk & chair, Flatscreen TV plus a telephone and internet connection point. A hair dryer and ample storage space. This cabin is suitable for families traveling with children, or passengers who do not require a twin or more luxurious cabin. Capacity 4 people.

Leaders in the field

Expedition Staff

Our polar expedition leaders and crew are specialists in wilderness environments with years of experience in the field. Your Expedition Leader will be highly skilled in communication and decision making, along with wilderness first aid and safety. It will be their job to ensure the expedition runs smoothly and that as many of our itinerary objectives are met whilst ensuring all participants safety and wellbeing. Your tour leader will be assisted by an expedition team, which may include a variety of polar specialists including geologists, ornithologists, marine biologists, naturalists and historians. There is also a resident medical officer on board each voyage. During the trip all of the team will impart their knowledge of the environments, as well as acting as zodiac drivers, lecturer’s, dinner companions and all round great travel buddies!

Payment of incidental expenses aboard most ships can be paid for with US dollars cash or with Visa and Mastercards.

Visas

Whilst visa's are not required to visit Antarctica many passport holders may require visa's for countries they transit en-route to the voyage. Please check with your reservations consultant or travel agent to determine if visa's are required for your journey.

We strongly recommend that all clients take out travel insurance at the time of booking to cover against sickness, accident, loss of baggage, unexpected alterations to travel arrangements and travel disruption, emergency evacuation, cancellations, etc. Insurance information is enclosed with your pre-departure information. We suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Money and valuables should always be stored safely when travelling. Keep your passport with you at all times and do not leave it in your main luggage. You will need it to change money and check into hotels. Where safety deposit boxes are available, we recommend that you use them. Keep jewellery and valuables to a minimum.
