India Trekking & Walking
From the high passes of the Indian Himalaya to the hills of the south
Few countries pack as much contrast into their walking trails as India. In the north, the Indian Himalaya stretches from the stark, monastery-dotted valleys of Ladakh to the sacred peaks of Uttarakhand, crowned by Nanda Devi (7,816 m / 25,643 ft), and east to the rhododendron-covered ridges of Sikkim. In the south, the Western Ghats roll through Kerala and Tamil Nadu in a green sweep of forest, tea and spice country, home to an entirely different rhythm of life.
Our guided treks range from the trails beyond the Markha Valley, crossing into the remote high plateau of Rupshu in Ladakh, to the Singalila Ridge along the India–Nepal border, with Kangchenjunga (8,586 m / 28,169 ft) on the skyline. For an easier pace, Trails of Kerala & Tamil Nadu explores South India’s hills and villages on foot. However far you walk, India on foot offers a slower, more personal way into one of the world’s most layered cultures.
