With over 25 years’ experience offering treks to Kilimanjaro, our Kili treks are designed to achieve the best possible acclimatisation which is reflected in our high summit success rate on Kilimanjaro. For prospective climbers, the fitter you are for the trip, the more of a holiday it will be, and experienced walkers will likely find that the altitude and the considerable amount of uphill and downhill plains are the main factors in determining the challenge of the trek.

We offer various routes to climb Kilimanjaro however we prefer to send trekkers along trails away from the crowds and along paths that will open them to the prolific wildlife and rich diversity of flora for which the region is renowned. Whenever possible we avoid the busiest routes of Machame and Marangu to offer you the best chance of enjoying your Kilimanjaro trek and reaching the prized summit.

Towering at 5,895 metres, Mt Kilimanjaro – or more fondly known as ‘Kili’ – is one of the famed Seven Summits and the world's highest freestanding mountain, so it has all the elements for an unforgettable trekking adventure.

Experienced leaders

Our guides are well trained, experience and have climbed Kili many times. Trekkers are met on the day before their Kilimanjaro climb begins and given a thorough briefing by our experienced trip leader, including details of the practicalities of the trek and particularly the summit day, and a check to ensure all clients have the required equipment for climbing Kilimanjaro.

We provide quality mountain tents designed for three people but only house two people inside

2 to 1 Trekker to Guide ratio

We provide the best ratio of guides – 2 trekkers to 1 guide – so when summit day arrives you’ll receive personal attention and encouragement if the hike proves to be difficult.

Emergency Oxygen

We carry emergency oxygen on all treks just in case

You won’t need to carry a heavy daypack with the assistance of porters and all our Kilimanjaro trips

Porter Welfare

In Tanzania and Kenya, the mountain porters we employ receive:

A rate in excess of the Kilimanjaro Porter Assistant Project (KPAP) recommended minimum wage for porters.

At least two meals a day; the third meal is sometimes a snack/tea as this can work best with the itinerary and water supplies. We ensure there are more than adequate amounts of food and have a system to check that all porters are well fed.

A weight restriction of carrying no more than 20kgs.

A porter age minimum of 18. There is no maximum age; we assess their suitability on their health and willingness to work.

The same medical kit and evacuation processes as the travellers.

Any costs for treatment to injuries that are sustained while working.

Sleeping bags and mats, waterproof jackets, warm hats and walking boots are regularly provided.

Working for Equality

We are proudly at the forefront of the process of changing local perceptions of sexual inequality by employing female crew members on Mount Kilimanjaro. We have two highly successful female guides, a female cook and around 40 female porters.

Kilimanjaro Guide Scholarship Foundation

Since 2012, World Expeditions has sponsored a guide to complete a scholarship course through the Kilimanjaro Guide Scholarship Foundation each year. The course trains the guides in Tour Operations, Tourism Geography, Wildlife Knowledge and Basic Computer Applications.

Camp in quality mountain tents designed for three people but only house two people inside, so there’s plenty of personal space and ample luggage storage area in the two porches. What’s more, you get three-course hearty meals included which are prepared fresh by our cooks with appropriate protein and nutrient-rich foods for a successful climb.

Leaders in the field

Anjela Tumaini

Anjela is one of our female guides on Kilimanjaro, breaking stereotypes in this male dominated field. She first worked as a porter in 2012 and in the same year made her first summit ascent and obtained her guides license. Anjela has completed the National Parks and First Aid courses. She enjoys meeting clients from all around the world and encouraging them to reach the summit.
