Overview

This adventure takes place on NOONGAR Country. We acknowledge their enduring connection with this Country, as they are the traditional custodians of this land, and we journey in respect of their Country.

Embark on an eight-day walking adventure through Western Australia’s spectacular South West, combining two of the region’s iconic walking trails – the Cape to Cape Track and the Bibbulmun Track. From the rugged Indian Ocean coastline of the Margaret River region to the dramatic shores of Albany, this journey showcases an incredible diversity of landscapes, from pristine beaches and dramatic coastal cliffs to towering karri forests and the wild Southern Ocean.

Begin on the Cape to Cape Track, walking from Ellensbrook through to the Margaret River and Prevelly before continuing south towards Lake Cave. Discover secluded coves, white sandy beaches and sweeping ocean views before traversing the spectacular coastal cliffs around Bob’s Hollow and Contos and entering the majestic karri forest. From here, journey further south before joining the Bibbulmun Track near Denmark.

Continue along the spectacular south coast, walking from Parry Beach past the turquoise waters of Greens Pool and the granite formations of Elephant Rocks to Lights Beach and Denmark. Further east, explore the rugged coastline between Shelley Beach and Mutton Bird Beach before arriving in historic Albany. Your walking adventure culminates with the challenging Bald Head Walk, where panoramic views stretch across King George Sound and the Southern Ocean.

Each evening, return to comfortable accommodation where you can relax and recharge for the next day’s adventure. Combining some of the finest sections of the Cape to Cape and Bibbulmun tracks in one journey, this itinerary offers a memorable introduction to the remarkable forests, beaches and dramatic coastline of Western Australia’s South West.

We will pick you up from DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront at 1 Barrack Square, Perth at 7.30am. From here we depart Perth and journey south through Western Australia’s beautiful South West to the world-famous Margaret River region, arriving at Ellensbrook in time for lunch before setting out on our first walk. From Ellensbrook, the Cape to Cape Track quickly leaves the coast and meanders through rolling sand dunes, passing the historic Ellensbrook Homestead and Meekadarabee Falls. Continuing south, we discover the secluded coves of Gnoocardup and the turquoise waters of Kilcarnup before reaching Horseshoe Bay, where we can marvel at a centuries-old osprey nest. Our walk then takes us along some of the region’s renowned surfing coastline towards Prevelly, with sweeping views across the Indian Ocean, before finishing near the mouth of the Margaret River. From here we transfer to our accommodation at Surfpoint Resort. As the day concludes, we regroup, share stories and enjoy a delicious dinner. This spectacular first walk provides a wonderful introduction to the diverse coastal landscapes and natural beauty that await over the coming days. Walking distance: 14km | Approx drive time: 3-4 hours

Meals: L,D

After breakfast we return to Prevelly and continue south along the Cape to Cape Track. From the limestone ridge at Prevelly, the trail descends into the sheltered creek line of Boodjidup Brook before continuing towards the white sands of Boodjidup Beach and historic Redgate Beach. From here, we enter what is considered one of the most spectacular sections of the Cape to Cape Track, following the scenic coastal cliffs around Bob’s Hollow and Contos. Sweeping views across the Indian Ocean accompany us as we make our way along this dramatic stretch of coastline before the landscape changes once again and we enter the majestic karri forest, home to some of the tallest hardwood trees in the world. While today is a longer day on the trail, the generally solid track underfoot and welcome afternoon shade of the karri forest make for enjoyable walking. We finish our journey near Lake Cave before transferring back to our accommodation at Surfpoint Resort, where we can relax and enjoy a delicious dinner after a rewarding day on the Cape to Cape Track. Walking distance: 18km | Approx drive time: 30-45mins

Today we leave the Margaret River region behind and journey deeper into Western Australia’s spectacular South West, exchanging the rugged coastline of the Cape to Cape Track for the towering karri forests associated with the Bibbulmun Track. Our journey takes us through picturesque countryside towards Beedelup National Park. Here we stretch our legs on a beautiful 4.5-kilometer circuit through lush forest to Beedelup Falls. Surrounded by towering trees and dense native vegetation, the walk provides a striking contrast to the open coastal landscapes of the previous two days. We take time to enjoy the falls and explore the surrounding forest before continuing to our accommodation. Depending on our day's schedule, there may also be an opportunity to stop at the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, one of the South West's local attractions along the way. This evening we settle into the Karma Chalets in the Denmark region and regroup over dinner and prepare for the next stage of our journey, when we join some of the finest coastal sections of the Bibbulmun Track. Walking distance: 4.5km | Approx drive time: 2-3 hours

Meals: B,L,D

After breakfast, we transfer to Parry Beach to begin today’s walk towards Lights Beach. This spectacular section of the Bibbulmun Track showcases some of Western Australia’s most beautiful coastal scenery, with sandy trails, coastal heath and sweeping views across the Southern Ocean. As we make our way along the undulating coastline, we pass the striking granite formations of Elephant Rocks before reaching the calm turquoise waters of Greens Pool. Here we take time to relax and enjoy a refreshing swim in this beautiful sheltered bay. After lunch, we continue along the coast towards Lights Beach, where the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and offers stunning views across the ocean and pristine shoreline. Upon completing our 14.7-kilometre walk, we transfer back to Karma Chalets and settle in for a well-earned evening of relaxation amongst the peaceful surrounds. After a rewarding day exploring the natural wonders of the south coast, we can unwind and recharge for the next day’s adventure. Walking distance: 14.7km | Approx drive time: 2 hours spread throughout the day

Meals: B,L,D

Today we return to Lights Beach and continue along the Bibbulmun Track towards Denmark. This beautiful section showcases the diversity of Western Australia’s southern coastline, with sandy trails, coastal heath, secluded coves and expansive beaches along the way. As we follow the coast, there are wonderful views across the Southern Ocean and plenty of opportunities to appreciate the region’s rugged natural beauty. Approaching Denmark, the trail leads us towards this relaxed coastal town, where there will be time to explore before transferring back to Karma Chalets. This evening we can relax and recharge after another rewarding day on the Bibbulmun Track. Walking distance: 14.7km | Approx drive time: 1.5 hours spread throughout the day

Meals: B,L,D

As we trek from Shelley Beach, the rugged beauty of the coastline accompanies our journey, with panoramic ocean vistas providing a stunning backdrop. The trail meanders through coastal heathlands, offering glimpses of unique flora and birdlife native to the region. As we approach Mutton Bird Beach, the landscape transitions into a beautiful stretch of sandy coastline. At the completion of our walk, we transfer back to Karma Chalets for our final evening in the Denmark region, where we can relax after another rewarding day on the trail. Walking distance: 12.5km | Approx drive time: 45 minutes spread throughout the day

Meals: B,L,D

Today we swap the Bibbulmun Track for one of Albany's most rewarding coastal walks, the spectacular Bald Head Walk on the Flinders Peninsula. The 13.5-kilometre return trail follows the narrow peninsula through Torndirrup National Park, with outstanding views across King George Sound, the Southern Ocean and the rugged coastline stretching towards the horizon. The route includes a number of steep and challenging sections as we make our way towards Bald Head, but the dramatic coastal panoramas make the effort worthwhile. On our return journey we visit two of Albany's best-known natural attractions, The Gap and Natural Bridge, where the power of the Southern Ocean has sculpted the granite coastline over thousands of years. We then return to our accommodation in Albany to freshen up, with time later in the day to explore Albany and enjoy its relaxed atmosphere. Walking distance: 13.5km | Approx drive time: 1 hours spread throughout the day

Meals: B,L,D

Our final morning begins at Albany's ANZAC Peace Park/Mount Clarence precinct, where elevated viewpoints provide wonderful vistas across King George Sound and the surrounding landscape. Here our guides prepare a hearty breakfast as we enjoy our final morning together. Depending on timing, there may be an opportunity to further explore Albany and its significant ANZAC history before beginning our journey north to Perth. We travel through the Great Southern region, stopping along the way for lunch and breaks before arriving back in Perth, where our Cape to Cape and Bibbulmun Track adventure comes to an end. Approx drive time: 5 hour plus stops

Every departure date advises whether the date is confirmed, and roughly how full it is. Here is what each one means.

Is the departure confirmed?

Guaranteed to go This departure has reached its minimum number and will run.
It is the point travellers should wait for before booking any non-refundable flights.
Close to guaranteed This appears only when a date is close to reaching minimum numbers. If it shows 1 or 2 to guaranteed, book as a pair on a date needing two and it reaches its minimum. Your booking confirms the date for everybody already booked.

How full is the date I am looking at?

Space is filling or Space is filling fast This date has bookings and places are still open. Filling fast means limited spots available, so don't leave your decision too late.
Closing soon Down to its last few places, or close enough to departure that we are finalising numbers. Still bookable online.
Closed Not bookable online - either full, or inside the notice we need to arrange permits, flights and logistics. Ask us anyway, you never know!

Availability questions answered

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

This trip combines sections of both the Cape to Cape Track and Bibbulmun Track, as well as the Bald Head Walk near Albany, so you will experience a variety of terrain throughout the journey. Expect coastal paths, sandy beaches, rolling dunes, coastal heath, forest trails and rocky headlands, with some steep ascents and descents along the way.

While much of the walking is on established trails, sandy sections and uneven or steep terrain can make some days more challenging. The Bald Head Walk in particular includes a number of steep and challenging sections.

We recommended that you have a good level of fitness for this trip. Walking distances range from 4.5km to 18km per day, and you will walk carrying a day pack (weighing around 4-7kg). Thorough physical and mental preparation is important for your safe participation and enjoyment of this expedition. As with any active holiday, the fitter you are for the activity, the more you will enjoy it. In short, fitness enables you to do more, see more and simply relax more.

This trip commences with a COMPULSORY pre-tour briefing at 3:30pm the day prior to your departure at Doubletree by Hilton Perth Waterfront at 1 Barrack Square, Perth in the CBD. On Day 1, there is a group pick-up at 7:30am from this same location.

Our departures operate between March - May and and September - November, taking advantage of some of the best conditions for walking in Western Australia’s South West.

March to May generally offer mild to warm days with cooler mornings and evenings. September brings cooler spring conditions, with the possibility of rain and fresh coastal winds, while September to November typically offer mild to warm days as the region moves towards summer.

We have the ability to charge cameras/phones/ipads/kindles in your accommodation each night.

Any excess luggage can be stored at your pre/post tour accommodation in Perth.

Hiking poles can definitely assist you with going up and down the inclines and for stability. If you have not used them previously, we recommend that you do some training with them before you head out on the hike.

This tour is fully vehicle supported. You will carry just a day pack containing the items you need during the day (including water, sun hat, snacks, lunch, camera, waterproof and warm layers). This is likely to weigh between 4-7kg.

No. Guides will provide you with drinking water each day.
