We believe our walking adventures are heaps of fun, and we want to ensure you have the best experience possible. It’s important to us that you have the fitness and skills to enjoy your time with us so please read on. For our full day bush walking experiences, participants require a good level of fitness and must be willing and able to walk over rugged terrain with some steep ascents and descents. In order to complete this walk you should already have a good level of fitness and ideally undertake regular exercise three or fours times a week. Experience hill walking with a day pack is recommended. Participants will get the most out of their walk if they feel comfortable walking up and down stairs and on uneven ground.

Overview

Girraween National Park is home to many awe-inspiring natural wonders including massive granite rock formations, cascading creeks and red gum woodland. In the local Indigenous language Girraween means ‘place of flowers’, and spring is the peak time for wildflowers in bloom. On this tour you will spend 5 days discovering the National Park in Queensland with the walks easily accessible from our private base camp.

You'll spend 4 nights camping at an exclusive campsite where every comfort has been thought of. You'll have all meals prepared by our chef, spend each night in our comfortable tents, and enjoy marveling at the night sky while sitting around the campfire. Eastern grey kangaroos graze around the campground and multitudes of birdlife can be observed throughout area. The walks each day take in the diverse landscape of the region, from the massive granite rock formations, to cascading waterfalls and freshwater creeks. All in all, this is an epic and immersive experience.

This trip starts with a late morning transfer from Brisbane. You can be collected from Brisbane airport at 11am or from Roma Street Station in Brisbane CBD at 11:30am. An hours drive will take the group to Main Range National Park for a picnic lunch and a short stroll through the UNESCO world heritage listed rainforest. Another 2hrs drive through some magnificent countryside and into the Granite Belt of Australia. You’ll arrive in Girraween at your perfectly set up camp just in time for afternoon tea and cakes. Settle into your well appointed eco tent accommodation then take a short stroll to the nearby fresh water creek and gaze at the magnificent Terrawambella granite summit. Enjoy dinner served around campfires under the stars.

After a delicious breakfast surrounded by grazing kangaroos, your guides will pack a sumptuous lunch and together you will trek towards Terrawambella. At the summit you’ll appreciate the true magnificence of Girraween and its unique granite rock formations. The return journey takes you to the impossibly balanced Granite Arch boulders before returning to camp for a well earned post-walk dip in the waterhole near the campground. You can laze on the warm granite rock with views of Terrawambella before returning to camp for a delicious dinner. Overnight Camp. Walking distance: 6-10km, 4-6 hours including lunch and breaks

With lunches packed, your guides will take you along the creekside pathway surrounded by red gums, wildflowers and birdlife towards The Junction. This paradise waterway of smooth granite, cascading creeks and pristine swimming holes is where you will settle down for lunch and have the opportunity to take a dip in the cool creek waters. Spend the evening relaxing around the campfire while your guides prepare another scrumptious dinner. Overnight Camp. Walking distance: 8km, 4-6 hours including lunch and breaks

Today's walk further reveals the true uniqueness of the Girraween granite rock. Summiting Castle Rock will provide some breathtaking 360°views. Further on you’ll be amazed by the up close view of the huge balanced boulders of The Sphinx, whilst at Turtle Rock you’ll see The Sphinx in all its glory. With wildflower blooms in abundance, this walk through the red gums and rocks will fill you with wonder. We have one final night together to enjoy a good meal and good chat around the campfire. Walking distance: 10km, 4-6 hours including lunch and breaks

After another warm comfortable sleep our chefs will prepare a sumptuous breakfast with locally sourced produce and Byron Bay grown coffee beans. A final bask in the glories of Girraween and your transit back to Brisbane awaits. Departing at 9:30am you’ll cross the great dividing range and head for your lunch stop at Scenic Rim Farm. Following a sumptuous lunch we’ll complete the remainder of the journey arriving at Brisbane CBD at 2pm and Brisbane Airport at 2:30pm.

Comfortable Camping

On this trip you will spend 4 nights camped at a basecamp within the Girraween National Park where there are toilets, drinking water and private washing rooms or canvas cubicles. On request we can provide hot water for washing.

We provide single or twin share tent accommodation in premium canvas tents with living space and bedroom.

Most groups are made up of a mixture of single participants and couples. If you are travelling independently you will receive your own tent for no extra cost.

Sleep on comfortable mattresses at our basecamp

Real Mattress Beds

All beds are made up with seasonally appropriate quilts on real mattresses with organic cotton sheets. Tents can be configured to suit single, twin share or double (kingsize) sleeping. The tents also include chairs and tables. The tents offer plenty of room for two people and gear. In winter we double quilt the beds for extra warmth overnight and have fires in the morning and evening.

Brand New Amenities Block

Easy access to brand a new amenities block provided by QLD National Parks that include flush toilets and private wash rooms.

Set up for enjoyment

The campsite is set up with your comfort and enjoyment in mind. We have a common covered area which includes a library of books and magazines, art supplies, and wood carving tools for you to use at your leisure. There is also a common shelter area with mobile firepits.

Our partners Bower Camp Co will make sure that you're well looked after throughout the trip. The team will be there to guide each walk, to share their knowledge of the area, and to ensure that each meal is delicious.

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a small group surcharge so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere - flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or just the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

There is some phone reception in specific areas near the camping area. There is phone reception in some parts of the National Park but you will not have full reception throughout the trip.

Yes, you will be able to charge your phone/devices via USB ports at the camp. There is limited access and the ports are shared amongst the group so we recommend bringing your own portable chargers.
