The Northern Grampians Deluxe Walk is a 4 day, 3 night all-inclusive tour through the Northern Grampians – by far, the most dramatic part of the Gariwerd Landscape. Its dry, sandy gullies and valley floors are dominated by huge rocky outcrops and the biggest sheer sandstone cliffs found anywhere in the Grampians. Overview

Our Northern Grampians Deluxe Walk begins at Mount Zero and explores Mount Stapylton, continuing on to the Waterfalls for Gar, Briggs Bluff and Beehive Falls, to name just a few iconic landmarks. On the way, we’ll experience ancient indigenous rock art, scramble to incredible 360-degree views, and feel dwarfed by the scale of the landscape.

Each day, transfer back to your private, off-grid eco-lodge and, after a hot shower, enjoy a glass of local wine and sample some local Grampians produce before dining on a banquet-style home-cooked feast.

Arrive at our eco-lodge anytime after 5pm. Once the whole team has arrived we will enjoy a welcome drink over a briefing that covers the plan for the next few days and updates on the weather. Afterwards, we will enjoy our first dinner as a group and the rest of the evening is yours to relax and get to know your new friends.

A short transfer will take us to the very northern end of the Grampians Peaks Trail where we’ll begin our walk. From the Mount Zero picnic area we will pass through the Stapylton Amphitheatre and be dwarfed by one of Victoria’s tallest and steepest rock climbing walls. We’ll exit the amphitheatre and have the option for a very scrambly ascent to the summit of Mount Stapylton. It’s quite a scramble with some exposure to heights, so this side trip may not be for everyone. On return, we’ll continue southward on the GPT until we turn off to Staypleton campground where we will be met by our bus for a late lunch at Grampians Olive Co. We will then visit Ngamadjidj rock art shelter, enjoy a tasting at Staypleton Wines and then head back to the eco-lodge to relax before dinner. Walking Distance 12.5km | Ascent 450m | Descent 490m

A 5-minute shuttle brings us back onto the GPT to start our day’s walk. The dramatic scenery continues as we’re dwarfed again by giant sheer cliffs and explore newly rediscovered seasonal waterfalls. The high point of today’s walk is an optional side trip up to Briggs Bluff – offering an epic 360-degree view of the Northern Grampians and the Wimmera Plains. We’ll then backtrack slightly before turning off to Beehive Falls and then walk back into the front of the eco-lodge. Walking Distance 16km | Ascent 600m | Descent 600m

Our last day is a good time to reflect. We’ll take a short drive to visit an indigenous art site and continue our discussions on the cultural landscape we have been walking through, then take one last hike up Hollow Mountain for a view back over our first day’s walk. Depending on the group and weather conditions on the day, an alternative walk may be organised e.g. Mount Zero. We will then transfer back to our eco-lodge for a final debrief over lunch and departure around 1pm. Walking Distance 2.4km | Elevation 155m

The 4-day hike was very expensive as the 1st day did not start until 11:00 and the 4th day was finished by early lunchtime. The guide, Alex, was excellent, being very informative. The chef, Ash, provided delicious meals and plenty to eat.

Hike with style and comfort

Exclusive Eco Lodge

On this journey we will be spending 3 nights at our exclusive off-grid eco-lodge nestled right in the middle of the northern section of the Grampians National Park. The lodge is fed by mountain spring water and powered by the sun. You will be staying in either double or twin bedrooms, with all linen and towels supplied and hot showers available. If you're a solo traveller, you will be required to pay for a single supplement to have your own room as we do not pair up solo travellers.

Off-grid living

During downtime at the lodge there is ample room to rest and relax, inside or out. The eco-lodge is truly off-grid, there is very limited phone service at the lodge and there is no wifi connection. We encourage guests to disconnect from technology during their stay and instead connect with the people around them and the place they're in.

Book a full-body massage and add a little more luxury to your Deluxe Walk. Delivered during the afternoon downtime, on-site at our Eco-Lodge by The Solar Outpost. A seamless mix of relaxation and remedial massage. Each treatment starts with a warm cup of tea, gentle music and aromatherapy. Each individual treatment is crafted for you. Before your treatment, you decide what you want more of. Dedicate more time to your shoulders, feet, facial massage or arms.

Expect a wide range of terrain

The Grampians Peaks Trail traverses the Grampians National Park from north to south and is split into 3 main sections known as the Northern Section (4 days, 3 nights), Central Section (5 days, 4 nights) and Southern Section (4 days, 3 nights). The area traverses a wide range of different terrains including rugged rocky mountains, valleys, ridge-lines alongside abundant flora and fauna.

Every departure date advises whether the date is confirmed, and roughly how full it is. Here is what each one means.

Is the departure confirmed?

Guaranteed to go This departure has reached its minimum number and will run.
It is the point travellers should wait for before booking any non-refundable flights.
Close to guaranteed This appears only when a date is close to reaching minimum numbers. If it shows 1 or 2 to guaranteed, book as a pair on a date needing two and it reaches its minimum. Your booking confirms the date for everybody already booked.

How full is the date I am looking at?

Space is filling or Space is filling fast This date has bookings and places are still open. Filling fast means limited spots available, so don't leave your decision too late.
Closing soon Down to its last few places, or close enough to departure that we are finalising numbers. Still bookable online.
Closed Not bookable online - either full, or inside the notice we need to arrange permits, flights and logistics. Ask us anyway, you never know!

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

For Self-Drivers:

Most guests drive themselves to the Eco Lodge, often using a hire car. Arrive in the afternoon or evening directly to the lodge.

For Guests Using Public Transport:

There are no direct public transport options to the lodge. However, you can take public transport from Melbourne CBD to Stawell. If pre-arranged, we can pick you up from Stawell and bring you to the lodge.

Our Grampians Deluxe Walk is designed for those who love to hike and explore and don’t mind putting the miles in during the day and then prefer the comforts of returning to boutique accommodation for the evening. Hot showers, crisp linen, outstanding catering – all the adventure with a little more “comfort”. Each day, you’ll only need to carry a few small items for the day such as water, a snack, and a rain jacket.

Victoria enjoys a temperate climate and reliable rainfall with four distinct seasons. Here is a guide to the weather conditions.

Summer: the average maximum temperature in south-west Victoria across January and February is 25 degrees Celsius. Sunscreen is required at all times, even on glary days, the UV factor can be deceptive. Wind can also burn, even when the temperature appears mild. Overnight temperatures vary from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Winter: June to August is the coldest time in Victoria, with average maximum temperatures of between 8 and 13 degrees Celsius.

Spring and Autumn can be anywhere in between! Expect mild days, with ocean breezes and winds. Late afternoons cool down, and evenings will require a fleece or long sleeves.

As with all mountainous walking, the weather can be unpredictable at all times of the year and the area can experience heavy rain and temperatures below zero degrees even in summer. For group safety and comfort having adequate gear and equipment for the local conditions ensures your wilderness experience is enjoyable. Upon booking you will be provided with a specialist gear list available that details what is required for the Grampians Peaks End to End Trek.
