From reefs to rainforest, this Belize adventure takes you from the clear waters of Lighthouse Reef Atoll to the ancient Maya world of Lamanai. Snorkel coral reefs, explore the Great Blue Hole and stay in safari-style cabanas on remote Half Moon Caye surrounded by white sand cayes and rich marine life. Inland, journey through the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary for birdwatching, wildlife encounters and river expeditions to the Maya ruins of Lamanai and Altun Ha. Combining coral reefs, wetlands and ancient history, this active journey showcases the natural and cultural diversity of Belize.

Definitely a trip to amaze with nature and experiencing Belizean culture.
Our camp is situated on spectacular Half Moon Caye National Monument. Under a canopy of coconut trees and next to a fantastic littoral forest (unique in the cayes of belize), and red-footed boobie colony, our camp looks south over the endless carribbean sea. Our comfortable basecamp consists of a central pavillion, which acts as the social hub of camp. Here we eat our meals, learn for our island guides with morning talks on the local ecology and discuss the day's plan. The camp is powered by small generator in the evening and there are freshwater showers, modern compost toilets and propane powered refrigeration giving us all the comforts of a well-appointed field camp. Guests sleep in comfortable wall-tent cabanas with wooden floors, a wooden night stand with a kerosene lamp and outfitted with either single or double beds.
Bird’s Eye View Lodge is located along the famous Crooked Tree Lagoon and offers the best lodging options in this part of Belize. There are always exotic neotropical birds around the sanctuary and our sharp-eyed, professional guides know how to find them. The rooms are comfortable with ceiling fans, private shower and hot water. Some rooms may have access to the terrace where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Crooked Tree Lagoon.

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.
You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.
If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.
Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

No previous experience is required for this Adventure Touring journey, however these trips can involve active outdoor experiences, basic facilities, boat travel and time in remote natural environments. To enjoy the trip, we recommend reasonable fitness, a moderately active lifestyle and a positive attitude toward adventurous travel.
Marine activities take place around Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Half Moon Caye within the Belize Barrier Reef system, far offshore from mainland Belize.
Accommodation includes a hotel in Belize City, safari-style cabanas on remote Half Moon Caye and lodge accommodation overlooking the lagoons of Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary.
No, optional scuba diving is available at Lighthouse Reef Atoll for an additional cost.
Wildlife may include parrots, toucans, aracaris, Morelet’s crocodiles, red-footed boobies and magnificent frigate birds across Belize’s coral reefs, cayes, wetlands and lagoons.
This journey supports conservation and community initiatives in Belize through long-standing responsible travel programs. A portion of trip proceeds supports the Belize Audubon Society, contributing to conservation and management initiatives at Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, Lighthouse Reef Marine Protected Areas and the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary.
The trip also supports community initiatives in Belize, including the long-running “Make Space in Your Case” school supply program for local students.
Through the long-running “Make Space in Your Case” initiative, you have the opportunity to donate school supplies to students in Belizean communities connected to this journey.
By setting aside a small amount of luggage space, you can help provide useful educational materials to schools in communities including Dangriga, Santa Teresa and Silk Grass. Suggested donations include children’s story books in English or Spanish, learning-to-read books, ballpoint pens, crayons, erasers, markers, pencils, rulers, scissors, coloured pencils, notebooks, maps and solar calculators.
For travellers joining the Belize Jungle and Reef Explorer, donations can be left with the local representative at the boat launch in Belize City, where supplies are collected for distribution to local schools and students.
This initiative has been running for many years and is one of the ways this journey supports communities throughout Belize.
