From the remarkable European cities that line the banks of the mighty Danube, to the rivers and canals of Holland, France, Germany and Italy, boat-based trips in Europe have been extremely popular. Thanks to the unique benefits that only this style of travel can provide, the concept appeals to riders of all ages and fitness levels. With boats ranging from basic to deluxe, e-bike upgrades available on most trips, a range of berth arrangements and an exciting array of destinations, you can find the right bike & boat trip with us
Typically, bike & boat trips book out early (there are only so many berths available on a vessel), so plan yours early!

FAQ on Bike & Boat Travel in Europe

Below, we aim to answer your top queries on bike & boat holidays in Europe. If you still have something to ask, please may we refer you to our partners at UTracks, or as always, feel free to contact us by phone or email.

1. What boat or barge will I be sailing on?

The vessel you will be sailing on depends on the tour you have booked. You will find this information under the Cabins section on the trip page.

2. What does a typical day look like on a boat-based active holiday?

Each morning starts with a hearty buffet breakfast to fuel your day. Packed lunches are assembled before you head out. The boat will dock to land and the crew will get your bikes ready for the day’s journey.
If you’re on a guided trip, your guide will lead the way as you pedal through Europe’s beautiful countryside. For a self guided holiday, you are free to cycle at your own pace as you follow the route notes (maps, navigation apps) of your itinerary.
At the end of the days cycling adventures, you’ll meet up with the boat. The crew will pack away your bike and you’ll have the evening free to prepare for dinner, socialise, read a book, or simply enjoy the surroundings as you cruise downstream.
The best part about a bike and boat trip is only having to unpack once!

3. Can I bring my family on a boat-based trip?

Some bike and boat holidays are family friendly. Check for the family friendly icon on the trip page or view our range of trips here

4. When should I book my bike & boat holiday?

If you wish to do a seasonal bike and boat trip, e.g. to see the tulips in bloom in the Netherlands on the Tulip Tour, please be aware of the increased demand for this experience.

5. What is the difference between a bike & sail and a bike & barge trip?

A bike & barge holiday cruises along the canals and rivers of Europe. Popular trips are in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and exploring the nations along the Danube River. Bike & sail tours explore the open waters of the Mediterranean Sea and are popular in Croatia, Greece and Turkey. The vessels used are motorised yachts or gulets (wooden Turkish sailboat).

On board shared amenities:  • Dining area and lounge • Deck area with sunbeds
