Watch: Cycling the Central West Trail from Mudgee NSW

Follow travellers Michele and Andrew as they ride through picturesque pasturelands on the newly established Central West Trail, which takes cyclists on a loop through New South Wales' Central West Region.

The loop from Mudgee traverses the territory of the Wiradjuri people, the First Nations people of this area, and hits the quaint country towns of Wellington, Dubbo, Baltimore, Mendooran, Dunedoo, Gulgong and back to Mudgee, covering more than 350 kilometres.

Today, relics of this area's lucrative pioneering history remain in the many interesting towns and villages that exude the laconic humour, charm, and hospitality for which rural Australia is famous.

For Michele, it was her first time on a self-guided cycling holiday.

Watch the video below to see her journey of discovering rural towns packed with character, including the region's 19th-century gold rush history in Gulgong and the thriving food and wine scene of Mudgee.
