This morning we transfer by coach out of Zhaoqing to Sihui, where we begin our ride towards Guangning. The route follows the Suijiang River Greenway, a well-paved cycling trail that provides a peaceful alternative to the busier roads and has previously been used for cycling events. Following the meandering river, we pass wetlands, old ferry piers, rural villages and citrus orchards, with much of the route shaded by riverside trees. As we approach Guangning, the landscape becomes increasingly dominated by bamboo-covered hills and valleys. Guangning is renowned as one of China's major bamboo-growing regions, with vast forests stretching across the surrounding countryside. Those wishing to complete the full ride can continue through Guangning to the hotel, while those who prefer to avoid the town traffic can finish cycling on the outskirts and transfer the final section by support vehicle.
