Caucasus Mountains
Hiking, cycling and cultural journeys through Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan
The Caucasus Mountains run between the Black and Caspian seas, a high and little-trodden range where Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan sit at the meeting point of Europe and Asia. Glaciated peaks rise above stone-towered villages, cave monasteries and old Silk Road towns, and the trails that cross these valleys still link communities that have lived here for thousands of years.
Our guided trips in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan include hiking, cycling and cultural journeys. Hikes follow sections of the Transcaucasian Trail, a long-distance route being developed across the region, past the medieval monasteries of northern Armenia and over Chkhutnieri Pass (2,730m / 8,957ft) to Ushguli (2,200m / 7,218ft), one of Europe’s highest inhabited villages. Cycling routes link the historic capitals of Yerevan and Tbilisi through mountain valleys and lakeside country. Cultural journeys run from Baku’s walled Old City through Georgia’s Kakheti wine region to Yerevan. Whichever route you choose, exploring the Caucasus is a rare way to experience one of the world’s great paths less travelled.
