Overview

Few trekking routes are as iconic as the trail to Everest Base Camp. Following in the footsteps of legendary mountaineers, this classic Himalayan journey takes us deep into Nepal's Khumbu region, through traditional Sherpa villages, across suspension bridges and beneath some of the highest mountains on earth. Along the way, the landscapes change from lush river valleys and rhododendron forests to rugged alpine terrain, with increasingly spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and the distinctive peak of Ama Dablam.

The journey is as much about the places and people encountered along the trail as it is about reaching Base Camp. We pass through the bustling mountain town of Namche Bazaar, visit the beautifully situated Thyangboche Monastery and experience the warmth of Sherpa hospitality in villages that have supported Himalayan expeditions for generations. As we climb higher, the landscape becomes more dramatic, culminating in the walk alongside the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). An ascent of Kala Pattar (5,545m) rewards us with one of the finest panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan giants.

What makes this trek particularly special is the comfort and support provided along the way. Rather than relying on the busy teahouses used by most trekking groups, we spend much of the journey in World Expeditions' exclusive private camps, set in carefully chosen locations away from the main trail. With spacious standing-height tents, comfortable beds, heated dining rooms and freshly prepared meals, these camps offer a welcoming place to relax at the end of each day's walk while retaining the atmosphere of a genuine Himalayan trekking adventure.

Our itinerary allows time to acclimatise gradually, with experienced local guides and a dedicated Nepalese crew looking after the details so we can focus on the journey. You will be met at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport arrivals gate by a World Expeditions representative and transferred to the Radisson Hotel in a private vehicle. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to relax after your journey or explore the surrounding area at your own pace. A pre-trek briefing will be held at approximately 4:30–5:00 pm, where your guide will outline the journey ahead and organise the distribution of your trekking kit including your kit bag, sleeping bag and down or fibrefill jacket. This evening we gather for a welcome group dinner, providing a great opportunity to meet your fellow travellers before the adventure begins. Accommodation: Radisson Hotel Kathmandu

Depending on the season, today is either a free day to explore Kathmandu or a road journey to Ramechhap in preparation for your flight to Lukla. If remaining in Kathmandu, you may choose to visit historic temples and markets, explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, or simply relax before the trek begins. During peak trekking seasons, flights to Lukla operate from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap, requiring a five to six hour drive (depending on road conditions) through rural countryside to position for an early morning departure. Your leader will confirm flight logistics and timings during the pre-trek briefing. Accommodation: Radisson Hotel, Kathmandu or private comfort camp at Ramechhap Note: Domestic flights to and from Lukla may operate from Manthali Airport, Ramechhap during the spring and autumn trekking seasons (March to May and October to December). This is determined by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and is subject to change.

This morning we transfer to the airport for our short but spectacular flight to the mountain airstrip at Lukla. This famous airstrip was originally built by Sir Edmund Hillary and his team to support his pioneering work establishing schools and hospitals for the Sherpa communities of the Everest region. The flight offers remarkable views of the eastern Himalaya, and on arrival we are immediately surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. After meeting our trekking crew, we begin our walk descending toward the Dudh Kosi River. The name “Dudh” means milk, referring to the river’s distinctive pale colour as it rushes down from the glaciers high in the Himalaya. The trail is broad and well defined, winding past fields of potatoes and buckwheat, small Sherpa villages and lines of colourful dahlia trees. After an easy walk we reach Ghat, where we spend our first night in our camp in the Everest region. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Ghat

Today's walk follows the Dudh Kosi Valley, gradually gaining altitude as we pass through a mix of pine forest and cultivated terraces where local farmers grow a variety of crops. Along the trail we encounter donkeys, yaks and dzopkyo (a yak-cow crossbreed) transporting goods and trekking equipment between villages. Shortly after leaving camp we cross the Kusum Khola, a tributary of the Dudh Kosi. From here we catch our first views of Kusum Kanguru (6,369m / 20,896ft) to the east. Further along the trail, across the valley to the northwest, the peaks of Nupla (5,885m / 19,308ft) and Kongde Ri (6,187m / 20,299ft) rise above forested ridges. At another bend in the trail, the impressive pyramid of Thamserku (6,808m / 22,336ft) towers above the valley. Today we also encounter our first Mani walls, sacred stone structures engraved with the Buddhist mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum", meaning "Hail to the jewel in the lotus." According to local tradition, these walls and nearby chortens should always be passed on the left side. By afternoon we reach our camp above Monjo, set in a peaceful location overlooking the valley. This morning we cross the striking turquoise waters of the Dudh Kosi River and enter Sagarmatha National Park, a protected UNESCO World Heritage area. The creation of the park was an important step toward reducing the use of firewood in the Everest region. Trekking groups are required to use kerosene for cooking, a sustainable practice we follow throughout Nepal. The trail follows the river valley through pine forest, crossing several suspension bridges before reaching the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and Bhote Kosi rivers. From here we cross a spectacular high suspension bridge before beginning the steady climb toward Namche Bazaar. The ascent winds through forested slopes until we reach a viewpoint where, on clear days, we catch our first glimpse of Mount Everest (8,848m / 29,032ft) along with surrounding Himalayan peaks. Continuing uphill, the trail leads us into Namche Bazaar, the vibrant Sherpa hub of the Khumbu region. The village is set in a natural amphitheatre with sweeping views across the valley toward Kongde Ri. After lunch there is time to explore the lively markets, browse Tibetan trader stalls, or relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere. Accommodation: Lodge Namche Bazaar

The trail climbs steadily from Namche to Syangboche airstrip before following a scenic ridgeline toward the Everest View Hotel. Sweeping panoramas open up across Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Khangtega, offering one of the finest viewpoints of the trek. Continuing on, we visit Khumjung and Sir Edmund Hillary’s Schoolhouse in the Clouds, a landmark of the Himalayan Trust’s early work in the Khumbu. A gentle descent then brings us to our camp at Kyangjuma, with a shorter acclimatisation option available directly from Namche for those adjusting to altitude. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Kyangjuma

One of the most spectacular days of the trek, today’s route begins with a gentle descent through rhododendron and pine forest to a suspension bridge crossing the Dudh Kosi River. A steady climb then leads up a long ridge flowing from the summit of Khangtega (6,782 m / 22,251 ft), where wildlife such as Himalayan thar, musk deer and the colourful danphe pheasant may sometimes be seen. A traditional gateway and chorten mark our arrival at Tengboche (3,860 m / 12,664 ft), the spiritual heart of the Khumbu. The monastery here offers iconic views of Everest (8,848 m / 29,032 ft) framed between Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,791 ft) and Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), alongside the striking peak of Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft) and neighbouring Himalayan peaks. After descending to Deboche for lunch, we continue along the valley trail before making the final ascent to Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa villages in the region. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Pangboche

Today we follow the Imja Khola Valley, descending briefly before crossing a suspension bridge beneath sweeping views of Everest (8,848 m / 29,032 ft), Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft) and Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,791 ft). Beyond the village of Shomare, the trail climbs steadily above the treeline as the landscape becomes more open and rugged, dotted with high-altitude shrubs and stone walls that protect crops from the strong mountain winds. As we gain elevation, the sense of altitude becomes more noticeable and the valley widens dramatically. We arrive at Dingboche, set on a broad alpine plateau beneath the striking south face of Ama Dablam, one of the most beautiful mountains in the Himalaya. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Dingboche

Today is an important acclimatisation day, allowing the body time to adjust to the increasing altitude while remaining active. Optional walks lead to the ridge above the village or further up the Imja Valley toward Chukung, offering expansive views of Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,791 ft), Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft), Chukung Peak (5,550 m / 18,209 ft) and Imja Tse (6,189 m / 20,305 ft). From both the valley floor and surrounding ridgelines, vast Himalayan glaciers spill beneath towering cliffs rising more than 3,500 m, creating one of the most dramatic landscapes of the trek. The remainder of the day is spent resting, hydrating and preparing for the higher stages ahead. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Dingboche

As we continue gaining altitude, today’s trek is taken at a slow and steady pace across increasingly barren terrain above the treeline. The trail climbs past Dughla and onto the Dughla Ridge, before crossing glacial moraine toward the Khumbu Glacier. Throughout the day, expansive views unfold of Cholatse (6,440 m / 21,129 ft), Lobuche Peak (6,119 m / 20,075 ft), Pumori (7,161 m / 23,494 ft) and Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,791 ft). Along the route we pass a series of memorial cairns dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest and neighbouring peaks, adding a powerful sense of place to this dramatic high mountain environment. Reaching Lobuche, the air becomes noticeably colder in this exposed setting. Sunset views of Nuptse from above the settlement are often a memorable highlight of the day. Accommodation: Lodge Lobuche Note: Accommodation in Lobuche is basic due to limited availability, and single supplements cannot be guaranteed during peak periods.

Today we trek alongside the Khumbu Glacier, following a rugged trail that winds across rocky moraine deep within the high glacial basin of the upper Khumbu. Surrounded by towering peaks and vast fields of ice, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic as we approach the highest point of our journey. Reaching Gorak Shep, the final settlement on the route, we pause for an early lunch before continuing onward toward Everest Base Camp. The walk to Base Camp is one of the defining moments of the trek, placing us among the icefalls and glaciers beneath the world’s highest mountain. During the pre-monsoon climbing season, colourful expedition tents may be seen scattered across the glacier. After spending time at Everest Base Camp and taking in the remarkable surroundings, we retrace our steps to Gorak Shep, where the thin air and stark alpine environment underscore the magnitude of the journey we have undertaken. Accommodation: Lodge Gorak Shep (Basic) Note: Accommodation in Gorak Shep is very limited and basic due to its remote location, and single supplements cannot be guaranteed during peak periods.

We rise early for the ascent of Kala Pattar, a Hindi name meaning "black rock," where dark slopes lead to one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region. From the summit we enjoy close-range views of Everest (8,848m / 29,032ft), with the Khumbu Glacier winding below toward the Icefall and Western Cwm, and many of the classic climbing routes visible across the vast glacial landscape. After descending from Kala Pattar, we retrace our steps past the memorial cairns honouring Sherpa climbers who lost their lives on Everest, before continuing down through Dughla and along the old lateral moraine. By afternoon we reach the sheltered village of Dingboche, set beneath the peak of Ama Dablam (6,812m / 22,349ft), with Imja Tse (6,189m / 20,305ft) rising at the head of the valley. If energy allows, there may be time for a walk to a nearby ridge to enjoy sunset views over the surrounding peaks. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Dingboche

As we descend, there may be a temptation to rush, but today’s route rewards a steady pace with constantly changing scenery. We follow the Imja Khola before crossing the Pheriche River and stopping for lunch at Deboche, surrounded by forested slopes and the quiet atmosphere of the high mountains. After lunch, the trail climbs gently through rhododendron and birch forest to the spiritual centre of the Khumbu at Tengboche (3,860 m / 12,664 ft), where the monastery sits dramatically against a backdrop of Himalayan giants including Everest (8,848 m / 29,032 ft), Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,349 ft) and Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft). From here we continue along the scenic ridgeline toward Kyangjuma, arriving at camp with sweeping views across the Khumbu Valley. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Kyangjuma

If the weather is clear, we enjoy outstanding final views back toward the mountains as we pass once more through Namche Bazaar, with time to browse Tibetan shops or pause for a relaxed coffee in the Sherpa capital. Leaving Namche, the trail descends steadily through pine forest toward the Dudh Kosi River, crossing several suspension bridges along the way. The landscape feels familiar yet transformed, carrying the weight of everything we have experienced deeper in the Khumbu and high among the world’s greatest peaks. Continuing down the valley, we exit Sagarmatha National Park and arrive at Monjo, marking the final stages of our journey through the Everest region. Accommodation: Private Comfort Camp Monjo

We retrace our steps along the Dudh Kosi Valley, passing familiar villages, mani walls, and forested sections that now feel like old friends after our time in the high Khumbu. The trail undulates gently through the valley, with a final steady climb bringing us back to Lukla, where our trek first began. As we arrive, there is a strong sense of achievement after completing one of the world’s great mountain journeys. This evening provides an opportunity to celebrate together and thank our trekking crew and porters, many of whom will return to their home villages from here. Accommodation: Lodge Lukla

This morning we transfer to Lukla Airport for the spectacular flight back to Kathmandu. The short mountain flight offers memorable views of the Himalayan range as we leave the Everest region behind. Depending on seasonal flight operations, we either fly directly to Kathmandu (approx. 30–35 minutes) or fly to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap (approx. 20 minutes) followed by a scenic drive to Kathmandu (approx. 4–5 hours). Upon arrival in Kathmandu you will be transferred to the Radisson Hotel, where the remainder of the afternoon is free to relax, enjoy the hotel facilities, or explore the city and do some last-minute shopping or sightseeing. If the Everest Base Camp is on your bucket list, or you're just looking for the next adventure, I can't recommend World Expeditions and their amazing Team high enough. Everyone in our tour made it to the EBC without any issues. Our Main Guide, Roy, made sure we were OK, informed us each evening what was coming up the next day and could bust a guitar out of nowhere and entertain us. Look, Anil and Myla also kept the pace steady for 14 days of trekking as well as dishing up great meals and bring us black tea and washing water each morning. The amazing Team of Porters got our kit to the days final destination and always with a smile. If you have one shot at the EBC and you want to go with a company that genuinely looks after their people, the locals and the environment, good news, you found them!

The EBC trip was an amazing life changing experience. From the word go we were completely looked after by our guide, Roy, who was always at hand to answer any questions we may have had. He would always go above and beyond to facilitate anything we needed. In addition to Roy, the support team of Sherpas and staff team provided plentiful home grown food and ensured that we were always safe in both ascent and descent. It is difficult to put into words the actions of all the staff in their quest to ensure that we had the ultimate experience. I would not hesitate to recommend all the crew to future trekkers.

I have just completed the World Expeditions, Everest Base Camp trek as of a few days ago. The 17 day experience was perfectly planned from start to finish and I cannot fault it. Going into this trek my main worries were getting sick, and or, not making it to base camp. Out of our group of 15, ages from 20-65, every single person made it to and from base camp, and not one person got a stomach bug or sickness!! The team, led by our incredible group leader Roy, took so much care and thought into everything they did for us. Our daily three beautiful meals were prepared with the utmost hygiene and care each and every day. The food was amazing, with so many different components and variety to each meal, we were left very fuelled and ready to trek every time. The tenting accommodation was one of my favourite aspects, it was incredible to be woken up every morning by a cup of tea, surrounded by the Himalayas. The sleeping bags and liners provided were enough to feel toasty and warm within the tents, even the nights that it snowed. The eco camp dining rooms were cosy and warm, with wifi and charging spaces, and the toilets were western style and clean at camp. The duration of the trip was perfect, it gave us all enough time to acclimatise appropriately, and explore the beautiful Himalayas on our way to base camp! I just want to say a big thanks to the team that safely got us to and from Everest base camp, it was truly more amazing than I could have ever imagined!! To Roy our amazing leader, to Mailyia, Anil, and Lok our incredible Sherpas, to our brilliant cooks, Dawa, Lakpa and Suresh, and to our super human porters, Jetha, Birbkha, Raj, Jumak, Ganga, Om and Ujal, thank you so, so much!

An incredible adventure, supported by World Expedition's professional team from initial contact and bookings to finishing our trip in Kathmandu. The leadership of our guide Roy and dedication of his wonderful team made our Everest Base Camp trek a truly memorable experience. From sharing their knowledge and love of the mountains and their communities, to ensuring we were well nourished and healthy, the team encouraged us every step of the way. The Eco-Comfort Camps were in beautiful locations, with gardens at Ghat and Monjo ensuring fresh vegetables at every meal. Seeing Mt Everest for the first time on my birthday was made even more special by the team presenting me with a birthday cake. Thank you Roy, Mailyia, Lok, Anil, kitchen staff Dawa, Lakpa, Suresh and all our porters - two weeks after arriving home, I'm still on a natural high and thinking of Nepal. This trek was an incredible experience from start to finish and I couldn’t have asked for a better journey.

Our leader, Roy, and his team of guides, cooks and porters (including Anil, Loc, Maila, Birkha, Om, Dahl and all the others) were truly outstanding and really helped to ensure we were safe, comfortable, well fed, well informed and entertained. Their professionalism, warmth and good humour created a supportive and positive vibe for the whole trip. The pre-trip information provided by World Expeditions, as well as the advice received each day on the trip, really helped to ensure we were prepared.

Of note is the fact that all 16 of our group made it safely to Base Camp and back with no issues around sickness or the effects of altitude. The guidance around acclimatisation provided pre-trip and each day by Roy (things like pacing, hydration, recognising early signs of altitude sickness and regular check-ins with us) helped to ensure everyone adapted to the altitude and that we all comfortably reached our goal.

I have just completed the World Expeditions, Everest Base Camp trek as of a few days ago. The 17 day experience was perfectly planned from start to finish and I cannot fault it. Going into this trek my main worries were getting sick, and or, not making it to base camp. Out of our group of 15, ages from 20-65, every single person made it to and from base camp, and not one person got a stomach bug or sickness!! The team, led by our incredible group leader Roy, took so much care and thought into everything they did for us. Our daily three beautiful meals were prepared with the upmost hygiene and care each and every day. The food was amazing, with so many different components and variety to each meal, we were left very fuelled and ready to trek every time. The tenting accommodation was one of my favourite aspects, it was incredible to be woken up every morning by a cup of tea, surrounded by the Himalayas. The sleeping bags and liners provided were enough to feel toasty and warm within the tents, even the nights that it snowed. The eco camp dining rooms were cosy and warm, with wifi and charging spaces, and the toilets were western style and clean at camp. The duration of the trip was perfect, it gave us all enough time to acclimatise appropriately, and explore the beautiful Himalayas on our way to base camp! I just want to say a big thanks to the team that safely got us to and from Everest base camp, it was truly more amazing than I could have ever imagined!! Our Private Comfort Camps

Our private comfort camps are a different way to experience the region, and you’ll find them only on World Expeditions treks.

Each camp is a permanent site set apart from the main trail, on land we lease from the local landowners who farm it. You’ll sleep in a standing-height tent on a raised bed with a comfy mattress, a pillow, and our supplied sleeping bag and inner sheet. Dinner is prepared by your expert crew in a permanent kitchen and served in a heated dining room with cushioned seating. Each site has a toilet block for ladies and gents and the toilets are sit-down, some flushing and higher up, composting.

Much of what’s on your plate at the evening meal was grown where you’re sleeping. The same landowners supply the vegetables for our kitchen, so your meal is freshly picked and full of flavour.

Because these sites are ours, there’s no racing the group ahead for a bed, no shared dormitory, and no pushing on to the next village because the teahouse was full. You arrive, settle in and rest, with the mountains outside your tent and your local crew looking after everything you need.

You can take comfort in knowing that a bed, a hot meal and a quiet place to rest are waiting for you at the end of each day’s walk, and that your stay supports the local families who farm the land we lease.

In Kathmandu you stay at the Radisson in Lazimpat, a quiet, central neighbourhood about a 12-minute walk from Thamel, where you’ll find Kathmandu’s best shopping, restaurants and cafés.

It’s your base in this exciting city. Our World Expeditions service desk in the hotel foyer is there to answer your questions about the trek, offer advice on Kathmandu, suggest local tours you can book, and help with any onward travel arrangements. You can leave your luggage, souvenirs and anything else you don’t need on the trail in free storage while you’re away trekking.

When you return from the mountains, you’ll have a pool, bar and restaurants, room service, currency exchange and free Wi-Fi waiting for you. The hotel’s health spa offers massages and other treatments, which many of our travellers find a welcome reward after the trek.

World Expeditions does not charge extra for travelling alone on our treks in Nepal. We'll pair you with another traveller of the same gender, and if we can't, you'll have your own room and tent at no extra cost.

Prefer not to share at all? You can pay to guarantee your own room and tent - the cost is displayed on the trip page.

That covers your own room at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu and your own tent at our private comfort camps.

Elsewhere on the trail you'll have your own room whenever one is free; during peak season it can't be guaranteed in some places like Lobuche or Gorak Shep.

Lodges

On the remoter sections of the trail, or where permanent campsites are not permitted, you'll stay in mountain lodges run by local Sherpa families. They are often the only accommodation available, and every trekker on the route uses them.

Lower down, the lodges offer a little more comfort: outdoor areas to sit, twin bedrooms, a heated dining room, hot showers (for a small fee), and a relatively reliable internet access as far up as Tengboche, though connections require payment. Higher up they become much simpler. Rooms are unheated and are cool overnight, shared bathrooms with basic facilities, and internet access is intermittent and charged separately. Everything in those buildings was carried in on the back of a person or a pack animal.

At the highest lodges, particularly Lobuche and Gorak Shep, there are limited rooms serving everyone on the route. In peak season we cannot guarantee any single occupancy at these locations, and at times , particularly during storms where trekkers without reservations may need refuge, the dining room may become a communal sleeping space after dinner.

Meals are fully included on our Nepal treks so you stay properly fuelled for the journey. Trekking, particularly at altitude, burns a huge number of calories each day, and we believe good food is essential to maintaining energy and enjoyment on the trail.

On a typical two-week tea-house trek, buying meals along the way can cost well over US$800 per person. Some companies appear cheaper by not including meals. By including all meals, you actually save both money and time while also knowing every day’s food is taken care of by your own trek cook.

Your groups trekking cook and kitchen crew will prepare fresh, hearty meals with careful attention to hygiene and nutrition, and there is always plenty available - seconds are always welcome. At our Eco-Comfort Camps, many meals also feature vegetables grown in the camp gardens, bringing fresh produce to some of the most remote trekking routes in the Himalaya.

If you don’t trek regularly, investing in specialised gear for a single adventure can be expensive. Quality equipment designed for high altitude and cold conditions is essential, yet we see many trekkers in Nepal with gear that might look suitable, but will not be effective in many Himalayan conditions.

To save you hassle, and money, we provide the use of a World Expeditions Trek Pack including a quality sleeping bag, down or fibre-fill jacket and a cosy fleece sleeping bag liner. At our Eco-Comfort Camps we even supply an extra blanket. You receive your Trek Pack at the start of your trip, use it throughout your trek, and can pack it into your World Expeditions souvenir kit bag when travelling on the trail.

Just as importantly, it supports your safety and comfort. Staying warm at night and getting proper rest (along with good food) are critical to maintaining energy and enjoying your trek in the Himalaya.

Flight to Lukla | Lachlan Gardiner

Flights to Lukla are included on our Everest region treks and are arranged by our team so the group travels together. We work with the most reliable airlines operating this route, selecting those with the strongest safety records.

Demand for Lukla flights is extremely high during peak trekking seasons and seats can sell out quickly. Booking early allows us to secure the flights and services required for your trek, and your ticket includes an extra 5kg baggage allowance for a total of 20kg.

Flights now operate via Ramechhap rather than Kathmandu, where accommodation is limited and the airport area becomes very busy during trekking season. To make the experience smoother, we stay at our private airport camp just a five minute walk from the terminal, allowing a relaxed drive the day before and avoiding the 1am start many trekkers face when travelling from Kathmandu to reach the early morning flights.

Every departure date advises whether the date is confirmed, and roughly how full it is. Here is what each one means.

Is the departure confirmed?

Guaranteed to go This departure has reached its minimum number and will run.
It is the point travellers should wait for before booking any non-refundable flights.
Close to guaranteed This appears only when a date is close to reaching minimum numbers. If it shows 1 or 2 to guaranteed, book as a pair on a date needing two and it reaches its minimum. Your booking confirms the date for everybody already booked.

How full is the date I am looking at?

Space is filling or Space is filling fast This date has bookings and places are still open. Filling fast means limited spots available, so don't leave your decision too late.

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

Yes. Our trekking kitchen team caters for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and most other dietary requirements, provided you tell us in advance so the right ingredients can be carried in. Advise us when you book, and confirm again with your guide at the pre-trek briefing in Kathmandu.

There are ATMs in Lukla and Namche Bazaar, and many remote lodges now accept EFTPOS. Both depend on a satellite connection, so neither is reliable in bad weather. Bring enough Nepalese rupees from Kathmandu to cover tips and miscellaneous purchases rather than counting on either.

Yes, more than most people expect. Wifi is available at most lodges and free at most of our private comfort camps, with a small charge at some. Mobile signal reaches surprising parts of the Khumbu, though it drops out between villages, so treat coverage as a bonus rather than something to rely on. You can also buy a SIM or eSIM.

Most Everest Base Camp treks use shared teahouses along the trail. This itinerary instead spends nights in World Expeditions' private comfort camps, with standing-height tents, raised camp beds, a heated dining room and sit-down composting toilets, set apart from the main trail for extra comfort and quiet.

Everest Base Camp sits at 5,364m / 17,598ft. The summit of Everest is hidden from Base Camp itself by the Nuptse-Lhotse wall, which is why this itinerary includes the ascent of Kala Pattar at 5,545m / 18,192ft - the region's finest viewpoint for Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse.

The highest overnight stop is Gorak Shep at 5,164 m / 16,942 ft, on the night after reaching Everest Base Camp. Sleeping altitude climbs gradually before that, including two nights at Dingboche at 4,360 m / 14,304 ft — the acclimatisation pattern that makes the ascent safer.

If you need to stop, you descend — the safest response to altitude illness at any point. Because this trek runs with its own guide, crew and camps rather than relying on teahouses, arrangements can be made for you to descend with support while the group continues.

Yes, if you are fit and active. The trek is graded Moderate, with days up to eight hours and a maximum altitude of 5,545 m / 18,192 ft, and it is not suitable for people with limited mobility. If you would prefer a slower pace, our Everest Base Camp over 55s trip covers the same highlights over more days.

The minimum age is 14. Teenagers who are fit, active and comfortable walking five to eight hours a day are welcome on standard departures. For families with younger children, our Everest Family Trek is a shorter Everest region itinerary designed specifically for family groups.

Trekking days run from around two hours on the first afternoon out of Lukla to seven or eight hours on the two biggest days — Everest Base Camp, and the Kala Pattar ascent. Most days are four to six hours, split by a one-hour lunch stop chosen by our crew.

A cup of tea arrives at your tent around 6:30 am, followed by warm washing water. After breakfast we walk from about 7:30–8:00 am, trek three to four hours to a lunch stop, and reach camp between 3:30 and 4:30 pm for afternoon tea. Dinner is served between 6:00 and 7:00 pm.

No bottled water is needed. Treated drinking water is supplied daily throughout the trek, hot or cold, and your bottles are filled with boiling water in the dining area each evening. This is both a health measure and a deliberate one to keep plastic out of the Khumbu.

Bring a 30–40 litre daypack for the items you need during the day. An 80–90 litre soft-sided duffel is provided and carried by porters, mules or yak, so you will not access it until camp. The duffel is not waterproof — pack dry bags inside it.

Departures run from late September through to mid-May, with the most frequent dates in October, November, March and April. There are no departures between June and August, when the monsoon makes the Nepal Himalaya unsuitable for trekking. December and January departures are cold but exceptionally clear.

Groups operate with a maximum of 16 travellers, from across the globe, led by an expert local leader trained in wilderness first aid and supported by a full trekking crew. Private group departures can also be arranged for families, clubs or groups of friends travelling together.

Yes. Everest Base Camp over 55s takes a more leisurely pace, Everest Base Camp High Flyer returns to Kathmandu by helicopter.

Our porters receive fair wages, insurance, protective clothing, food and shelter, and carry loads within responsible weight limits. Porter welfare is built into the trip cost rather than left to the traveller, and has been part of how we operate in Nepal since 1975.

This is a 17-day itinerary from Kathmandu to Kathmandu, including a 13-day trek. It runs longer than many standard teahouse-based treks because it builds in extra acclimatisation days and private comfort camp transfers, trading pace for safer altitude gain, better sleep and lower altitude-sickness risk.

The season typically runs from September (Autumn) to May (Spring). This is when there is no monsoon and the weather is stable and clear enough for views of 8000m giants! In some parts of the Himalaya, Spring brings with it a riot of colour thanks to the famous rhododendrons.

No technical experience is needed. This trek is suitable for fit, healthy and adventurous travellers who can walk 5-8 hours a day without worry. You’ll have full support from experienced guides, porters, and our friendly Nepalese team.

You’ll only carry your daypack (approx. 6-8kg / 13-18lb) with daily items like water, camera, rain jacket, and snacks. Your main gear is carried by porters.

Your trek duffel (provided) should not exceed 15kg (33lb). On Lukla flights, we include an extra 5kg (11lb) allowance in addition to the usual 15kg (33lb) limit (10kg checked + 5kg carry-on).

Yes - any extra items not needed on the trek can be safely stored at the group hotel in Kathmandu.

Yes - all accommodation is twin-share in both lodges and camps. If you'd prefer your own space, a single supplement can be arranged for an additional cost at most accommodation (subject to availability, Lobuche and Gorak Shep can be difficult to confirm due to limited accomodations available).

At higher altitudes, especially at night and above 4,000m (13,100ft), temperatures can drop significantly at night. Expect anything from mild to below freezing (Celsius). We help keep you warm with high-quality gear and private comfort camps that include a heated dining area.

At our private comfort camps, you’ll find Western-style sit-down toilets. Lodge toilet styles can vary, but many now also include Western-style options.

You will see the top of the world's highest peak, however there are many other treks (like our Everest Circuit or Everest High Passes treks) in the Everest region that will provide vantage points showcasing more of the mountain. If seeing Mt Everest if your goal, also consider seeing it from the Tibetan side where the view is uninterrupted.

Yes - with World Expeditions, all meals are included while on trek. Our cooks prepare fresh, hearty meals each day, using safe food-handling practices, to keep you well-fuelled and healthy. You won’t need to budget extra for food on the trail, which can be approiximately USD20 for a simple course (we offer endless top-ups). In Kathmandu, breakfast is included, but other meals are at your own expense so you can explore local dining options.

You'll stay at the Radisson, a 4-star hotel, in Kathmandu. On trek, enjoy our exclusive private comfort camps with heated dining rooms, sit-down toilets, as well as selected lodges in villages. Hot showers are sometimes available but not guaranteed. We provide warm washing water every morning on trek.

There will be opportunities to charge your camera/phone at Namche, Deboche and Lukla. There are also solar charging facilities in Dingboche, Lobuche & Gorak Shep. You should carry fully charged spare batteries as well and a solar charging pack is also handy.

Our trek is graded Moderate (5). Days can involve up to 8 hours of trekking, with steep ascents/descents and altitudes up to 5,545m (18,192ft), so a reasonable level of fitness is required. You should already lead an active lifestyle. Training 4-5 months beforehand with regular aerobic and hill walking exercise is recommended

The trek reaches Kala Pattar at 5,545m (18,192ft), offering panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. Not all companies offer this added hike from EBC.

Every departure includes an expert bilingual local guide trained in wilderness first aid and porters who carry your main duffel bag, so you only carry a light daypack. This itinerary isn't offered as an unguided trek, the guide, crew and private comfort camp support are built into every departure date.

No - we provide one. Some operators require you to hire or buy gear at extra cost, we include a warm sleeping bag, liner and mat as part of your trek. In our private comfort camps, you’ll sleep on raised beds with mattresses and pillows.

You won’t need to invest in expensive gear you might only use once - we include essentials on our Nepal treks like a quality sleeping bag, down or fibre fill jacket and sleeping bag liner. This not only saves you money, but lightens your load when you travel to/from Kathmandu! Once you’ve booked, we’ll provide a detailed gear list outlining exactly what you need to bring. If you don't have a sturdy pair of boots yet, start looking into those now.

Based on our years of experience in the Himalaya, the safest itineraries include acclimatisation days, like ours, so they are paced for safe ascent. Guides are trained in first aid, carry a medical kit, and we take a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC) on all treks above 4,000m (13,100ft). We do not carry oxygen on standard trekking tours. If symptoms persist, descent is required.

Yes - return flights to and from Lukla are included. Each trekker is allowed a total checked luggage weight of 20 kg (about 44 lbs), as our trekkers also receive 5 kg (about 11 lbs) extra allowance above the standr 15kg on the trek flights.

Our Ramechhap camp is a five-minute walk from the terminal, which avoids 1am starts and gives more buffer to manage a rebooked flight than travelling from Kathmandu on the day.

Yes - a Nepal tourist visa is required and arranged by you (visa fees aren't included). Your Sagarmatha National Park entry fee and TIMS trekking permit, both required to enter the Khumbu region, are included and organised by our team.

Yes - travel insurance is required but not included in the trip price. Because the trek involves altitude, your policy needs to cover altitude trekking and emergency evacuation at elevation; check this before you buy, as many standard policies exclude it.

In Nepal's Solukhumbu region, the remote mountain village of Thame is recovering from a devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) that destroyed homes, infrastructure, and critical community services — including the local school and its computer lab. With students displaced and relocated to temporary learning facilities, access to quality education has been severely disrupted, particularly in digital learning.
 
The Rebuilding Digital Education in Thame project aims to address this gap by equipping the newly relocated Thame Basic School with a computer lab, smart boards, and essential digital infrastructure. This will enable students and teachers to access modern, technology-enabled education in one of the most remote regions in the world.
 
With support from the World Expeditions Foundation, this project will fund the installation of computers, smart boards, printers, and classroom infrastructure to support both students and teachers. The outcome? Improved digital literacy, more engaging and interactive teaching, and equitable access to education for a community rebuilding after disaster.
 
The project is led by Himalayan Trust Nepal, a long-standing organisation working closely with local communities, schools, and government partners to deliver sustainable education and development outcomes across the Khumbu region.
