Gokyo Ri & Renjo La Trek - World Expeditions
Our Gokyo Ri and Renjo La trek with World Expeditions was an incredible and challenging experience, and one we will remember for a very long time. From the beginning, the trip was well organised, and the whole crew worked incredibly hard to make sure we were safe, comfortable and well looked after throughout the journey.
A special mention has to go to Roy, whose experience, advice and constant tips were invaluable, particularly when it came to managing the altitude. He was always encouraging us to take the right approach, listen to our bodies and do the things that could help prevent altitude sickness. His knowledge gave us a real sense of confidence, especially as the altitude became more challenging.
The food was another highlight. Considering the remote and sometimes difficult conditions, we were genuinely impressed by the quality and variety of the meals. The crew put so much care into preparing food and making sure we had plenty of hot drinks. There was always someone looking after us, whether it was preparing meals, bringing hot water for washing, or making sure we had hot water for our sleeping bags.
One of my favourite parts of the camping experience was waking up in the morning to a cup of tea brought to our tent. Those little touches made such a difference, especially when the temperatures were freezing and getting out of a warm sleeping bag was a challenge!
Our porters also deserve enormous recognition. Dilip was incredibly kind, friendly and always had a smile. And when the altitude really started to take its toll on me, Karna went above and beyond by carrying my backpack on top of his own backpack. I will never forget that gesture. The care, patience and kindness shown by the entire crew were truly exceptional.
The tents and sleeping bags were comfortable and well suited to the conditions, which made the camping nights much easier than I had expected. The tea house accommodation was more basic, apart from Namche, which was a little more comfortable. The cold conditions in some of the rooms, and at times a less-than-clean environment, were challenging, particularly after long and physically demanding days. However, these are also part of the realities of trekking in such a remote and high-altitude environment.
Overall, the organisation, professionalism and genuine care of the World Expeditions team made a huge difference to our experience. Gokyo Ri at 5,484m and Renjo La at around 5,400m were incredibly tough, but reaching both was an amazing achievement.
We came away with incredible memories, a huge sense of accomplishment, and enormous appreciation for the people who helped us get there. I would highly recommend this trek and, especially, the wonderful crew who made such a challenging journey feel possible.
