As the sun begins to rise, we will depart from your hotel on an exciting journey to the Camino de Cruces (Las Cruces Trail). This historic stone trail, built by the Spanish during the early colonial era, holds tales of adventure and discovery. It served as a vital link between the Old Panama City, nestled along the Pacific Ocean, and Fort San Lorenzo at the mouth of the mighty Chagres River on the Caribbean Sea. Our trek begins with an approximately 45-minute drive, transporting us back in time as we enter the Soberania National Park. Here, within this protected area, we will embark on an approximately 8-kilometer, moderate level hike along a section of this storied trail (6-7 hrs. Elevation gain 227m). This partly cobble stoned trail requires good physical condition and will take you through creeks, and muddy, slippery and uneven rainforest terrain. Along our journey, we will encounter fascinating landmarks that bear witness to the trail's illustrious past. Marvel at ancient stone remnants and markers, remnants of a time long gone. Listen closely, and you may hear the whispers of the past, stories of conquest, trade, and the sheer determination of those who braved this challenging route.
