Morning walking safaris of two to four hours are complemented by afternoon and evening game drives, offering both close-up and wider wildlife encounters. Your base is an intimate bush lodge with just five private chalets, where shared dining, campfires under the stars and views across the savannah create a relaxed yet comfortable atmosphere.

Designed as a flexible Johannesburg-to-Johannesburg extension, this safari is an ideal way to add Kruger’s iconic wildlife experience to a Kilimanjaro climb or other African adventure.

Upon arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, please make your way to the Information counter in the International Arrivals Hall where you will meet a representative from Safari Club Hotel who will arrange your complimentary shuttle. Check in and spend the rest of the day/evening at leisure. Overnight: Safari Club Hotel.

Meals: Nil

You will be collected from your hotel at around 8:00am and transferred to Klaserie Nature Reserve, which shares unfenced boundaries with Kruger National Park. The journey takes approximately 5.5 hours with two different shuttles - 1st shuttle from Johannesburg hotel to the Kamogelo Tourism Center; and the 2nd shuttle from Kamogelo Tourism Center to the Bush Pub Inn. We will meet our ranger at the Bush Pub Inn, from where we will transfer to our bush camp in the Greater Kruger National Park. This afternoon there will be game viewing in a combination of walking and driving. To get a feel for the African wilderness after dark there will also be a night drive on one of your evenings here. As the diurnal animals and birds prepare for sleep, and the nocturnal ones awaken, the sounds change and a whole new world unfolds. Our permanent campsite has safari chalets with ensuites, is private and secluded and is not open to day visitors. It is unfenced and designed to blend in with the natural environment, adding to the wilderness feel. The camp is serviced by a cook and a camp attendant and every safari is accompanied by one or two experienced and armed game rangers. Dinner and overnight: Africa on Foot Camp

Meals: D

In the morning, we will set off at first light after a quick breakfast of biscuits and a hot drink. Enjoying the cool morning air we may walk directly from camp, or use a vehicle to drive further out before commencing our walk. The ranger will decipher the tracks and signs left by the passing animals during the night. The thrill of walking, tracking and getting up close to wildlife is an unforgettable experience. During the walk we will concentrate on all the interesting things that are missed when game viewing by vehicle such as trees, plants, insects and birds. A big breakfast will be prepared back at camp, and then there will be time to relax and have a rest during the heat of the day. After lunch we will head out again on a walk/ drive combination activity. A cool drink in a beautiful location in the Reserve, while watching a stunning African sunset, concludes an inspiring day. Back at camp a hearty supper and a warm campfire will be waiting for us. After a long but rewarding day it is comforting to drift off to sleep listening to the sounds of the night beneath a sky full of stars that seems to stretch beyond the horizon. *Note: the combination of walks and drives in an open safari vehicle are dependent on weather and animal movements at the discretion of the rangers. Dinner and overnight: Africa on Foot Camp.

Meals: B,L,D

We will go out for one last early morning walk today, appreciating our new-found knowledge of animal tracking and observations. After breakfast back at camp, we pack up and say our goodbyes before being transferred to the Bush Pub Inn, and back by two shuttles to Johannesburg International Airport or your hotel, where trip concludes. Arrival in Johannesburg is around 18:00hrs. We recommend booking flights for onward travel after 20:00hrs, or spending an additional night in Johannesburg (ask us for additional night's cost).

Our bus transfers all went to plan and our stay at Greenfire Lodge was exceptional.

I arrived after 20 days of camping, Greeted with a very warm welcome I dropped my bag in a very comfortable hut and immediately thought, this is a nice bit of luxury! On the first evening game drive I was impressed with the team's obvious care, passion for and knowledge of the animals encountered, large and small. Making sure everyone gets the best view they operate a system with other game parties to make sure there's not a jumble of vehicles battling for a view.

This really paid off at a very special leopard viewing where we had plenty of time to take photos and just enjoy the experience before pulling out to make room for the next group. I got closer to elephants and rhino than at any other game drive, and felt totally relaxed. Doing things a bit different to other game parks Africa on Foot literally take you out on foot to get an up close experience, totally safe with all care and protection in place. Back at base be prepared for a gourmet treat, drinks around the fire and good company. Because I had an early morning departure time they made sure I wouldn't miss out by providing a orivate game drive and I finished on a high catching a group of wild dogs at rest, Just Magic!. The team get top marks!!

The Kruger Lodge safari was an incredible experience, accommodation was good, food was delicious and the guides were very knowledgeable.

The only issue was a lack of information provided by World Expeditions regarding the transfer times & transfer company from Johannesburg to Kruger.

Our trip around South Africa was an excellent experience for our whole family. World Expeditions knows it's destinations very well and has sorted out who the best, most trustworthy local providers are and how to put everything together into one seamless, stress free experience. An outstanding adventure that exceeded our expectations.

Extra trip info

Private bush chalet

Your base is an intimate bush lodge of just five private, ensuite rondavels - traditional round, thatched chalets that combine authentic bushveld character with comfort. Well maintained pathways link the chalets to a welcoming central area featuring a bar, lounge and dining space built around an grand old tree trunk, creating a relaxed and distinctly African atmosphere.

Guests gather around the long safari table for shared dinners, with evenings centred on the open air boma where a fire burns beneath the stars. Two splash pools offer respite during the heat of the day, including a raised deck pool that is occasionally visited by elephants in the dry season, and a more secluded pool ideal for sunset drinks overlooking the savannah.

Every departure date advises whether the date is confirmed, and roughly how full it is. Here is what each one means.

Is the departure confirmed?

Guaranteed to go This departure has reached its minimum number and will run.
It is the point travellers should wait for before booking any non-refundable flights.
Close to guaranteed This appears only when a date is close to reaching minimum numbers. If it shows 1 or 2 to guaranteed, book as a pair on a date needing two and it reaches its minimum. Your booking confirms the date for everybody already booked.

How full is the date I am looking at?

Space is filling or Space is filling fast This date has bookings and places are still open. Filling fast means limited spots available, so don't leave your decision too late.
Closing soon Down to its last few places, or close enough to departure that we are finalising numbers. Still bookable online.
Closed Not bookable online - either full, or inside the notice we need to arrange permits, flights and logistics. Ask us anyway, you never know!

Availability questions answered

Will this trip actually go ahead, or could it be cancelled?

If a date shows Guaranteed to go, it runs regardless of further bookings.

What does 2 to guarantee mean?

It means two travellers are enough to confirm the departure. It could be 2 more to add to the group, or the date only needs 2 people to run. Either way, if you book for two people, the date will become guaranteed to run.

What happens if my departure does not reach minimum numbers?

You will know the status before you book. Every date on this page is labelled, and dates marked “Guaranteed to go” are running regardless of further bookings. Where a date has not reached its minimum we either offer a surcharge to operate for a smaller group size so it can still run, or we cancel it. We contact you directly either way.

Will I get my money back if you cancel a departure?

If we cancel a departure due to not meeting minimum trip numbers, you receive a full refund of everything you have paid us less any non recoverable costs, where insurance may cover you. We cannot refund money committed elsewhere – additional non refundable deposits advised at the time of booking, flights, visas, vaccinations, gear - which is why it is worth waiting for “Guaranteed to go” before booking other arrangements around this trip date. Please read our Booking Terms and Conditions before you book.

Why can't I book some dates online?

Each trip closes online a set time before departure. Permits, internal flights and hut or campsite bookings all have to be arranged before we take payment. Call or enquire as it might still be possible to organise last minute places.

The date I want is closed. What are my options and why does it say to enquire?

Cancellations happen and places do open up on closed dates, so it is worth being on our list. We can also tell you which nearby date on the same trip has space, which is usually the faster route.

None of these dates suit me. Can you run this trip on another date?

Yes, as a private departure. We can run this trip on a date you choose, for your own group - family, friends, a club, or in many cases, just for the two of you. Tell us when you want to travel and who is coming, and we will build it around that.

Early morning game viewing walk in Hlane National Park in Swaziland

Your safety is our main priority

Africa's wildlife is wild and unfenced. On many wildlife safaris you may meet them on foot, or from a vehicle. Walking in big-game country carries some risk, and the safeguards are not the same in every country.

Rules on firearms, guide qualifications, group size and how close you may approach an animal are set country by country, park by park. Many incorrectly assume that every wildlife safari in Africa travels with an armed ranger. Several countries prohibit firearms outright. Where an armed escort is required, it is supplied by the park authority.

What is consistent is how these trips operate. You walk in a small group with a professional local guide who knows the country and the animals in it. We do not include captive or hands-on wildlife encounters in any itinerary.
