"The camp sites are very clearly well looked after and the caretakers of each site clearly take great pride in making sure they are in the best condition possible! The tents are amazing – it could be windy and cold outside and you’d never know! The camps are also placed in fantastic spots with breathtaking views of the local surroundings!" - Leslie D., Dec'22

Watch: Benefits of Eco-Comfort Camps vs Tea house Treks in Nepal

Are you choosing between a teahouse trekking trip and our camp-based treks in Nepal? Here’s why you should consider our Eco camps in the Everest and Annapurna regions.

Our exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps offer you added comforts compared to a camping based trek and also help care for the environment and communities in Nepal's spectacular trekking regions.

After a good day’s trekking in Nepal you will benefit from the added facilities of one of our exclusive Eco-Comfort Camps located throughout the Everest and Annapurna regions. The camps are just for our travellers and are located in secluded plots that offer a tranquil camping experience with truly stunning views of the Himalaya.

Eco-Comfort Camp Features

  • Standing height tents with raised beds, mattresses and pillows.
  • Dining rooms that are heated for daily meals and 'downtime' – perfect for your healthy breakfasts and freshly cooked, three-course evening meals, or for a place to reflect on the day. The rooms have suitably Nepali atmosphere, with traditional furnishings and woodwork.
  • Flushing, composting and septic, western-style toilets and hand basins.
  • Most of the Eco-Comfort Camps are fitted with hot showers powered by hydro or solar panels.

These semi-permanent campsites come complete with spacious tents, comfortable beds, thick mattresses, composting toilets, and basins, and dining rooms that use eco-friendly heating, not to mention stunning and spectacular views over the Himalaya! World Expeditions eco campsites provide comfort and warmth, privacy and superb views, all with minimal cost to the environment and contributing economic benefit to the local community!

What meals can you expect when trekking in Nepal with World Expeditions?

Did you know that meals on a 2-week tea-house based trek in Nepal could cost you in excess of US$800pp?! A quality trek in Nepal should include all your meals while on trek. It's not just a value for money reason, it also helps protect the local landscapes and your own health while on trek. Why worry about carrying excess cash and looking for a decent meal at the end of a long day on your feet when you could sit back and enjoy what you came for - the glorious Himalaya. Watch this video to learn the seven simple reasons we choose to include meals in all our treks in Nepal. Find your Nepal trek at https://goo.gl/vYxKjb

Positive benefits for Nepal's environment and community

During your trek, enjoy the environment with a minimal 'footprint' and at the same time be a contributor to local communities. Below are some of the ways you help achieve this while trekking in Nepal and staying at our campsites:

  • A camping-based trek employs 25% more local people than a tea house or lodge-based trek. Our Eco-Comfort Camps and the operations of these generally provide year-round employment and career opportunities for the Nepali people (and you gain an invaluable insight into the local culture via the dedicated Nepali crew accompanying your trek).
  • We purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from the local communities – further contributing to the local economy.
  • We ensure that the environmental impact of our campsites is significantly smaller than that of a tea house or standard lodge-based trek through Thoughful Travel practices.
  • Deforestation is a major ongoing concern for the Nepali wilderness – it's a significant threat to the country's flora and fauna and can be the cause of landslips, which can be a risk for villages. For heating, we burn dried yak or buffalo dung – a sustainable and renewable fuel source that has been widely used as a traditional practice in the Himalaya for centuries. Timber for building at our sites is purchased from Nepal's controlled forestry suppliers.
  • We cook with kerosene or gas.
  • All non-biodegradable refuse – paper and plastic – is incinerated in a clean and complete burn. Non-combustible waste is carried out to the nearest city for responsible disposal.
