Today we enjoy a rewarding day hike towards the foot of Karakol Peak (5,216 m / 17,113 ft), the highest summit in the Terskey Ala Too Range. The trail follows the Uyun Tor River, initially along an old dirt road before entering a beautiful Tien Shan spruce forest. In the warmer months, the surrounding alpine meadows burst into colour with wildflowers including snowdrops, tulips, primroses, anemones, alpine asters and edelweiss.
The trail gradually climbs to a scenic viewpoint at approximately 3,080 m / 10,105 ft, offering magnificent views of Karakol Peak and the surrounding mountains. After enjoying lunch in this spectacular setting, we retrace our steps to camp.
Those wishing for a shorter walk are free to return to camp at any point along the trail. Back at camp, there is also the opportunity to relax in a traditional mountain sauna.
