Choosing Your Cycling Adventure

Experienced? Beginner? Intermediate?

If you’re looking for a way to feel the wind in your hair and the gravel beneath your wheels, exploring a country by bike can give you an intimate and unparalleled exploratory experience. Whether you are an experienced cyclist looking for the ultimate challenge, or a beginner cyclist looking for a relaxed way to explore a country, these are our top recommendations for cycling adventures in 2016!

Introductory Cycling Trips

Our introductory cycling trips include cycling for up to five or six hours per day at a slow and steady pace. You'll make your way around a location in relaxed ease with some small inclines, and cycline on.

Preparation

To ensure your body is equipped for these adventures, consider incorporating road cycling at least twice a week for three months prior to departure. This could be cycling to work, a couple laps around a park or joining a cycling group!

Moderate Cycling Trips

Designed for the more experienced cyclist, our moderate cycling trips involve cycling from six to seven hours per day at a steady pace.

Preparation

You will need to have a good level of fitness to undertake a moderate cycling trip, so preparation is key! We recommend you prepare by spending up to 45 minutes road cycling at a steady pace three to five times a week. It would also be a good idea to cycle in variable weather conditions (light rain, cool weather, windy days and hot, humid days) to get a feel for the elements you may encounter.

Challenging Cycling Trips

Not for the faint-hearted, our challenging cycling trips are for cyclists who are experienced and have completed a cycling tour once before. Cycling up to 8-10 hours a day (even more sometimes!), you’ll cover the remote back roads of a country, cycling at altitude of over 4000m on some trips. You will need to have an excellent level of fitness and be comfortable cycling in all sorts of weather, speeds and mountainous terrain. You’ll encounter steep ascents and descents, sustained hill and undulating terrain, crossing distances of 80km or more.

Preparation

We recommend training for these challenging cycling trips by cycling for at least one hour, four times a week, for at least 6 months prior to departure. As you’ll be required to carry a backpack up to 8kgs (and in some cases, a full pack), it is important that you have an excellent level of fitness.
